Experience Details

Shabu-shabu is a delicious kind of Japanese hot pot (nabe). It's usually made with beef, but it can also be made with pork and your choice of veggies, tofu, seafood, and other ingredients.

The Japanese language is full of fun onomatopoeia, and "shabu shabu" is no exception, referring to the swishing sound of stirring meat in the bubbling broth with chopsticks.

In this cooking class in Ninomiya, the instructor will place a portable camping gas stove in the center of the table. Everyone can gather around it to make the shabu hot pot, toss ingredients, and cook together.

In addition, during this hot pot class, you'll learn to make special shabu-shabu sauces. The two classic sauces for this dish are ponzu and sesame. Ponzu is a common citrus fruit in Japan with a fresh and bright flavor, while sesame sauce has a toasty and nutty flavor.

There are also a few secret alternative sauces that the cooking instructor can share with you! This shabu shabu hot pot cooking class is totally gluten-free, so many people can enjoy it.

This class takes place in Ninomiya, Kanagawa Prefecture. While lesser-known than some more famous destinations in the prefecture, Ninomiya is a great stop for travelers who'd like to experience an authentic, quiet stop on their way to the Mt. Fuji area.
