Experience Details

Tea ceremony is one of the most popular food and cultural experiences you can do when visiting Japan. This experience, held in Tokyo’s Nerima Ward, welcomes guests to a traditional Japanese tea house in Kouyama Garden.

Upon arrival, settle into one of the two tea rooms. Your host, Rika, a tea expert with 20 years of experience, will proceed with an introduction to tea ceremony. Then, she will expertly prepare tea.

Next, it's your turn! You can make matcha with the guidance of your host. Enjoy matcha tea, freshly brewed during the ceremony, served with wagashi (Japanese confectionery).

After the tea ceremony, head to the Japanese garden where you can take photos of the beautiful flora. Keep an eye out for seasonal colors! Kouyama garden has a couple of cherry trees that turn a gorgeous shade of pink in the spring and some Japanese maples that turn crimson red in the fall.

This experience lasts about 2 hours. Guests who book with the kimono option should anticipate an additional 20 minutes for changing into and out of the kimono.

We had a wonderful experience with Rika learning about the tea ceremony, enjoying tea and sweets and wearing beautiful Kimono. The garden is a perfect environment for the ceremony. Arigato Rika.
