Experience Details

Tokyo is known for being one of the world’s most modern cities, but countless traditions can still be found here, from geisha to traditional cuisine. Embark on a unique tour exploring Japan’s capital city, including visiting historic Japanese food stores, sacred shrines, a Fukagawa-meshi dinner, and even a private geisha show.

You’ll start by exploring shops selling Japanese sweets and sake in Tokyo’s old downtown Monzen-Nakacho. Next, you will step onto the sacred grounds of Fukagawa Fudoson Temple to witness the powerful Goma Shugyo ritual, an intense fire ceremony believed to purify and bring good fortune. The rhythmic chanting of monks and the crackling flames are incredibly powerful to experience.

After your visit, you’ll continue your journey to the adjacent Tomioka Hachiman Shrine, one of Tokyo’s largest and most historically significant Shinto shrines, with deep connections to Sumo. Explore its serene grounds, dotted with Sumo monuments, and learn about its rich history and Edo-period traditions from your host.

In the evening, you’ll be greeted with an air of elegance on an “ozashiki” experience — the rare opportunity to be entertained by a geiko (geisha) in a private dining room. You will enjoy a mesmerizing performance and experience the refined hospitality of these skilled artists, known as Japan’s quintessential entertainers, up close.

You will end your journey with Fukagawa-meshi, a flavorful dish combining rice, clams and broth, from a humble home-cooked meal to one of Tokyo’s best-known Edo dishes, and the perfect way to end your historical exploration of the city.
