Description
Good to Know
Hidden amidst Shinjuku's maze of side streets, an unassuming entrance leads to a sushi sanctuary. The city's noise fades at the counter or a private room until it's just you and the sushi. With omakase nigiri courses and the epic sea urchin tasting set, the culinary highlights here speak louder than the buzzing surroundings.
Embark on a culinary journey at Shinjuku Sushi Oumi, as the owner's passion for Edomae sushi takes you into the heart of Tokyo's markets. This is the place to delve deep into old Tokyo's sushi legacy, immersing you in the authentic flavors of Edomae sushi’s origins. The interior is minimalist and sparsely decorated, letting diners focus on the pure flavor and texture of the sushi. With 30-plus years of sushi-making experience, the head chef’s passion and skill are palpable as he sculpts nigiri with the finest seafood, such as hon-maguro bluefin tuna and Japanese tiger prawn.
In the right season, the restaurant is crowded with sea urchin enthusiasts, who are drawn by the restaurant’s meticulous selection of uni. Thanks to his long history of making sushi, and subsequently his extensive connections to suppliers across the island, the head chef has access the finest varieties from northern Japan, including purple sea urchin from Aomori and Miyagi, and bafun green sea urchin from off the coast of Hokkaido’s Rishiri Island.
