Experience Details
There are many ways to try Kobe beef in Japan, but few experiences let you prepare and enjoy it inside a real local home.
In this hands-on cooking class in Kobe, cooking becomes more than a recipe. It becomes a chance to gather around the table, learn local traditions, and experience the warmth of Japanese home dining.
The experience takes place in a local home kitchen, where the smell of simmering broth and freshly prepared ingredients creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere from the moment you arrive.
Your local host begins by introducing Kobe beef, explaining its connection to Hyogo Prefecture, and how only carefully selected Tajima cattle can receive Kobe beef certification. Through simple explanations and visual materials, you will gain a deeper understanding of why Kobe beef is so valued, even within Japan.
You will then prepare sukiyaki, a traditional Japanese hot pot dish made with thinly sliced Kobe beef, seasonal vegetables, tofu, and egg.
As the ingredients cook together in the pan, rich savory aromas slowly fill the kitchen. Your host guides you step by step through the cooking process, sharing techniques and tips used in Japanese home kitchens.
Alongside the sukiyaki, you will also make udon noodles from scratch. Flour and water are used to knead, rest, and shape the dough by hand. One of the most memorable parts of the experience is the traditional foot-kneading technique, which gives the udon its chewy texture.
After the cooking, everyone sits down together to enjoy the meal. Warm sukiyaki and freshly made udon are shared around the table in a relaxed home setting, with natural conversation between guests and the host.
Inspired by the everyday spirit of Japanese home cooking, this experience is about more than just sharing a meal. It is a chance to learn the story behind Kobe beef, try traditional cooking techniques, and experience local life in Kobe through food and conversation.
