Experience Details
Step into a cozy studio in Arashiyama, where the aroma of fresh wood sets the scene for a hands-on journey into Japanese dining traditions.
Your host, an experienced local craftsman, will share the cultural significance of chopsticks in Japanese culture, from the careful rituals of kaiseki to everyday meals.
The experience will start with choosing your preferred wood, learning its grain and scent. Using traditional tools, you will shape each chopstick while learning the techniques passed down through generations.
Feeling the smooth wood, hearing the gentle scrape of the tools, and soaking in the room's calm focus will make the experience both relaxing and creative.
After shaping, you will sand your chopsticks to a refined finish. You may also personalize it with a name or a short message, adding an intimate touch.
At the end of the session, your host will check each of the chopsticks you made to ensure balance and quality, and wrap them for you to take home.
By carving your own chopsticks, you create a personal connection to Japanese food culture, a special keepsake, and a memory that will stay with you.
