Experience Details
While Kyoto, Osaka, and Nagoya often take the spotlight, Mie moves at a slower, gentler pace.
In Tsu, wide rice fields and quiet village streets set the stage for a private farm experience that blends tradition with innovation.
Your day begins at Takeshi’s farm. A rice farmer and graduate student at Mie University, he combines research with hands-on work, using technology to support time-honored practices.
After a warm welcome, you walk with him to a nearby historic temple. With a cup of Kameyama green tea in hand, you take a quiet moment to meditate, surrounded by the soft scent of tatami and the gentle rustle of leaves.
Next, the experience flows into village life. Depending on the season, you may stroll through green rice paddies or along narrow lanes lined with traditional homes. Along the way, you meet locals and learn how harvest cycles and shared meals shape the community.
Lunch highlights the region’s ingredients. Onigiri are filled with rich Matsusaka beef and red sea bream from Ise, while a bowl of miso soup adds a comforting, savory note. Each bite connects the fields around you to the meal on your plate.
In the afternoon, you join a hands-on rice workshop. You polish and cook rice yourself, noticing its glossy texture, subtle fragrance, and delicate flavor. A final stroll through the fields or village gives time to reflect, and a private photoshoot captures the rural setting.
The day ends back at the farm, leaving you with memories, photos, and a deeper understanding of rice culture in Mie.
This private experience takes place in and around Tsu, with easy walking through fields and village paths. The pace is relaxed and personal, guided by conversation, season, and curiosity, offering an authentic glimpse of life in the Japanese countryside.
