We had such an exceptional experience! A sincere thank you to our host, Kaoru, who thought through every detail end-to-end to ensure a seamless experience. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it - not only the fantastic mochi lesson, but most importantly her company and the time she took to explain mochi's significance in the Japanese culture. This made such a great memory for our trip that our family will cherish for a lifetime. We will book another lesson with Kaoru the next time we are in Tokyo for sure. Thank you again! ❤️

We are so grateful for this experience. We wanted to make some nerikiri back at home, and we felt this was a very good and complete first step into this world. Before the class, we asked to make the sakura and momiji because we really wanted to try them, and Nariko had no problem adapting to our requests. During the class, we made five models: two chrysanthemums (the second one was really difficult), one sakura, one momiji, and one bunny, because it was Tsukimi. Although the second chrysanthemum was quite challenging, it turned out pretty good, and with a bit more practice, the small petals will surely look even better. Nariko’s explanations were very helpful — at first it seemed difficult, but we got used to it, and the nerikiri turned out quite good for our first time making them. Nariko is a really fun and kind person, and I would absolutely love to learn more from her again in the future!

We had an excellent time learning to make nerikiri with Nariko. She was well-prepared and very knowledgeable, and she was able to teach students with a variety of experience levels. It was an excellent class, and the results were both beautiful and delicious.

Making Nerikiri with Satoko was one of the highlights of my trip! She is so capable, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic, and is gracious enough to hold the class in her beautiful home. The class was easy to get to on the train with a short walk from the station. I learnt so much about wagashi and nerikiri making and I can’t wait to make some at home. Thank you Ogawa-san! I had a beautiful time.

It was my first time making this kind of sweet. It was a bit complicated, especially the latter parts. However, Nariko-san gave us very detailed demos and informative notes for each step which helped us create and finish each Nerikiri. I recommend trying this experience out!

Huge thanks to Kaori for hosting us at her wagashi school. We learnt how to make Dango, strawberry 🍓 Daifuku and wagashi. Also had them with matcha the traditional way and hojicha tea after. She was really patient with us and we were there for 3 hrs. It was a fun activity to do with my 12yr old daughter and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Kaori also shared she does kids classes and will be teaching onigiris next. She gifted us tea and calligraphy and we could take home leftovers after the class. Can't wait to be back on our next trip. Her plc is not far from Mitaka station and is near Ghibli museum so def worth a trip if u r in the area.

We had a wonderful time learning how to make your own rice cake making different kinds of shape and colors. Kaoru san made it easy as was our first time making it. Also I loved to get to know about the meaning behind the colors of mochi and how it is connected to the season and the Japanese culture. Was fantastic.

Making “Nerikiri & Mochi” and enjoying “Matcha in Tokyo” was a fantastic experience, and I highly recommend taking this course in Japan! I love to cook and bake, so when I saw the chance to make something I’d never had, I signed up alongside my siblings, and we had so much fun. Our instructor, Satoko, was such a delight; she educated us on the history of mochi and nerikiri, making the experience all the more special. As for the mochi and nerikiri, they tasted SO amazing (they also happened to be Vegan and Gluten-Free, which was great as they fit into my personal dietary restrictions). I have added the recipes to my favorites list and will be making them again back home! Overall, I highly recommend taking this class, especially with Satoko; she was sweet and helpful throughout the lesson. I will be sure to take another class with her once back in Japan!

Our mochi class with Satoko-san was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we stepped into her cozy studio, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that immediately made us feel at home. Satoko-san's friendly demeanor and passion for sharing her culture shone through every aspect of the class. Throughout the session, not only did we learn the intricate art of making mochi, but Satoko-san also took the time to delve into the rich tapestry of Japanese culture and tradition. From the significance of mochi in celebratory events like New Year's to its symbolic importance in weddings and other ceremonies, we gained a deeper appreciation for the role mochi plays in Japanese life. What truly set this experience apart was Satoko-san's ability to seamlessly blend tradition with modernity. As we crafted our own mochi under her expert guidance, she shared stories of how this centuries-old delicacy has evolved to suit contemporary tastes and lifestyles. From innovative flavor combinations to creative presentation ideas, we discovered a whole new world of mochi beyond the traditional varieties. By the end of the class, not only did we learn the art of mochi-making, but we also left with a newfound understanding of Japanese culture and customs. The experience was not just about food; it was a journey of cultural immersion and appreciation. In conclusion, whether you're a food enthusiast or a cultural explorer, I cannot recommend Satoko-san's mochi class highly enough!
