I loved my experience with Yuko-San. She was a very sweet lady who wants to make sure you get the best experience possible. The cooking was pretty fast paced but it's because she wants you to have the time slow down and enjoy the sweets you made while drinking a cup of tea and chatting with her. She is interested in you and wants to know about your story. If you learn Japanese before booking this class, you will gain even more from this experience since you will able to connect with her even more. I truly think she makes the experience worth it. It is much better than a step by step Youtube video. It felt more personal. Arigatō gozaimasu Yuko-San

This was a fun, accessible way to experience yatai in Fukuoka. Reasons to book this tour (in no particular order): 1. It takes the guess work out of choosing where and what to eat. Bruce takes you to the places he personally eats at, and orders the best items at each stall. 2. Variety. We must have sampled ten different dishes and everything was delicious. (You will leave full!) 3. Experiencing new foods with other travelers who enjoy food as much as you do is a lovely way to spend an evening. 4. Bruce is an attentive host, eager to share what Fukuoka's yatai scene has to offer. In short, great host, great food, great experience. Highly recommend!

The Yatai tour with Bruce was amazing! We saw how a Yatai build-up works and experienced a big variety of amazing food at two stalls - Bruce explained everything concerning the different dishes we tried and was even so generous to give us some restauratant advice for our next stop in Japan! Thank you so much, the evening made a lasting impression and Bruce‘s enthusiasm for Yatais is definitely contagious!

Bruce was very awesome and accommodating as I booked the wrong date but he introduced us to a great bar and Yatai run by a brother and sister that could accommodate 5 of us. Highly recommend!

We had the most enjoyable evening with Bruce! Due to the heavy rain, Bruce had already rearranged plans to visit some izakayas. These were truly hidden gems! We had authentic local food with great conversation! Thank you, Bruce, for such a great and unique experience!

This is an amazing way to experience this part of Fukuoka culture! Since Bruce has been doing this for literally decades, he knows the people and the best places to go. The "influencer hot" places are often surpassed by a cart right next to it and that's where Bruce will take you. Yatai culture includes talking with lots of folks who you have never met before but just happen to be sitting by and Bruce facilitates this exceptionally well. We place on repeating this the next time we are there!

We had such an exceptional experience! A sincere thank you to our host, Kaoru, who thought through every detail end-to-end to ensure a seamless experience. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it - not only the fantastic mochi lesson, but most importantly her company and the time she took to explain mochi's significance in the Japanese culture. This made such a great memory for our trip that our family will cherish for a lifetime. We will book another lesson with Kaoru the next time we are in Tokyo for sure. Thank you again! ❤️

Unfortunately it was raining all day, so most yatai were simply just closed on the day, but Bruce was able to come up with an excellent Plan B option where we visited a very hidden izakaya and ramen shop, which had excellent food on offer. The izakaya especially blew us away! At the end of the tour we were very full, so you definitely get your fair share of food. Bruce himself was very hospitable and made it very much feel like a night out with a friend/local. Would love to retake this in the future with better weather and actual yatai!!

Discover the Delight of Vegan Mochi Food Experiences

Japan is renowned for its incredible culinary diversity, and if you're vegan, you might think some of these delicacies are off-limits. Luckily, this is not the case when it comes to mochi, the chewy, sticky rice cake commonly enjoyed across the country. These delightful treats come in a variety of vegan-friendly options that allow everyone to experience authentic Japanese flavors while adhering to plant-based diets.

Various food experiences offer vegan mochi on their menus, providing a delightful indulgence. Whether you're a seasoned vegan or just exploring this lifestyle, trying vegan mochi is a must. Enjoy them in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, or sample them at modern dessert cafés that offer a twist on classic recipes.

Vegan Mochi: A Fusion of Tradition and Innovation

Historically, mochi holds a significant place in Japanese culture, particularly during traditional holidays like New Year. When you dive into vegan mochi experiences, you get to witness the traditional methods of mochi-making that have been passed down through generations. As sticky rice is naturally gluten-free and vegan, the mochi base remains authentically traditional while vegan-friendly fillings cater to a variety of preferences, such as sweet red bean paste, matcha, or even fruit fillings like strawberry or yuzu.

Moreover, innovative chefs around Japan have embraced the challenge of crafting unique vegan mochi flavors. From using coconut milk to infuse a creamy texture to incorporating seasonal fruits and nuts, the textures and tastes you'll encounter will delight and surprise you. These creations showcase how vegan mochi can stand as a symbol of creativity and respect for tradition bound together in every bite.

Where to Experience Vegan Mochi in Japan

While wandering through vibrant neighborhoods and local markets, you can encounter numerous shops offering vegan mochi experiences. Joining a guided tour with a focus on vegan delicacies can enrich your journey with stories and history. These tours often include stops at well-loved, sometimes hidden, establishments that specialize in vegan sweets.

Additionally, many culinary workshops offer hands-on experiences where you can learn how to make mochi from scratch. These workshops are a fantastic opportunity to get your hands sticky while understanding the cultural essence and methods behind this beloved treat. Participants can creatively mix different vegan ingredients to form unique mochi flavors that reflect both personal taste and the rich plant-based diversity Japan offers.
