Had a great time with Emi-San and Jun-san who were patient, kind and enthusiastic hosts. This class is unique with the combination of mocktails and mochi character making. And it was basically private as there were only the two of us that I booked for. The characters were soo cute and surprisingly easy to make! They will for sure become a fun staple snack for me as someone who has trouble with gluten. Making the three mocktails instead of two was definitely worth it for the variation in flavours and possible alcoholic combinations (if that’s your speed). Super happy with this experience overall!

We were warmly welcomed by Keiko and seated in a room looking out onto a beautiful garden. She led us through the process of making sweets with red bean paste centers. We silently watched her perform the tea ceremony and enjoyed the matcha tea she made. We then had the opportunity to try tea making ourselves. We appreciated Keiko’s kindness and the history of the traditional Japanese tea ceremony.

This was such an amazing experience! If you’re into cooking, Japanese sweets, or are just looking for something fun and unique to do while you’re in Japan I’d definitely recommend booking this tea lesson with Emi. My mom and I booked a private lesson for a small extra charge, and I definitely think it was worth it. This experience is something I’ll be recommending to all family and friends who visit Tokyo.

Cool Location. The tea master is authentic and takes a lot of time to explain everything. He shows the spirit of the tea. You can process the tea yourself. Highly recommended.

The Art of Wagashi and the Traditional Tea Ceremony

Immerse yourself in the harmonious world of Wagashi, the delicate and beautiful Japanese confectionery, and the traditional tea ceremony. With roots that trace back centuries, both Wagashi and the tea ceremony hold a special place within Japanese culture, embodying an aesthetic philosophy that appreciates simplicity, beauty, and a profound connection to nature. Ideal for both gourmets and culture enthusiasts alike, these experiences offer an opportunity to discover and appreciate the intricate craftsmanship and the serene practices that make them so revered.

Discover the Exquisite Making of Wagashi

Wagashi are more than just sweets; they are edible art. Crafted from natural ingredients like sweet bean paste, rice flour, and seasonal fruits, each Wagashi sweet is designed to reflect the beauty of the changing seasons. In a Wagashi-making class, you will learn how to mix, shape, and sculpt these ingredients to create your own traditional confections. Guided by expert artisans, you will experience first-hand the meticulous attention to detail and the cultural significance that each piece of Wagashi embodies. The process is not only a culinary delight but also a meditative practice, encouraging mindfulness and appreciation for delicate flavors and visuals.

Experience the Serenity of a Traditional Tea Ceremony

The traditional tea ceremony, known as Chanoyu, is a spiritual and philosophical event steeped in precision and grace. Engaging in a tea ceremony offers an intimate glimpse into Japanese culture. Each movement, from the preparation to the serving of matcha—a powdered green tea—carries deep significance, focusing on harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility. Participants are invited to leave the chaos of daily life behind and find a moment of calm through ritual and reflection in an authentic setting. Guided experiences in tea ceremony ensure understanding of each ritual’s purpose and foster a deeper appreciation for the simplistic beauty of Japanese customs.

Combining the making of Wagashi with the tea ceremony allows for a complete cultural experience. Savor the sweetness of Wagashi while sipping finely prepared matcha, fostering an intricate balance of flavors and traditions. Join these experiences to explore a world where culinary art and culture blend perfectly to provide an unforgettable glimpse into the heart of Japan—right through your taste buds.
