As a favorite city for foodies, Oita is a minor heavyweight on the national gourmet scene. While the big three mostly hold a monopoly on three star Michelin ratings, Oita has its fair share of stars. One restaurant which represents the city in style is Oshokujidokoro Hiramatsu, a kaiseki restaurant next to Oita Funai Park.
Here you can enjoy an omakase meal featuring generous amounts of chargrilled meat, vegetables, and seafood, all prepared with premium Binchotan charcoal. Also worth trying are their fantastic rice bowls, some in chazuke style with hot broth or tea poured over the top.
Counter seats and dining tables are available, as is a healthy selection of alcohols to mix and match with the delicious dishes.
