Experience Details

Home to Tokyo's oldest temple (Senso-ji), Asakusa offers plenty of attractions and activities, including a unique restaurant: Asakusa Sumo Beya. Here, you can see a sumo bout, enjoy a traditional Japanese dance performance, eat a sumo wrestler's meal, and, if you're lucky — and brave — even challenge yourself to fight against a sumo wrestler!

You’ll first watch a Japanese dance performance while enjoying food and drinks. Your meal will be prepared by a former sumo wrestler himself, following an original recipe. Consisting of a chanko nabe stew with jidori chicken, bonito, kelp, and shiitake mushrooms, and a side dish of fried chicken and inari sushi, this is the kind of meal a real wrestler would eat, packed with protein and nutrients to help build strength.

Then, the sumo show will start. Two former rikishi wrestlers will step onto the dohyo in the center of the restaurant and engage in a thrilling bout. Once the show is over, there will be time to interact with the wrestlers as they challenge guests with a show of hands to fight them. If you are chosen to participate, you can dress in a funny sumo suit or an actual mawashi loincloth and challenge yourself to wrestle with them. Wrap up with a group photo, and take home a unique souvenir to remember this day.
