Experience Details
Near the Higashi Matsuura Peninsula in Saga Prefecture, Karatsu was once a thriving castle town and a gateway to Korea and China.
Today, this peaceful seaside city offers stunning coastal views, historic landmarks like Karatsu Castle, unique crafts such as e-karatsu pottery, and a vibrant local food scene.
For an authentic taste of Karatsu, head to Yatai Mura, a cluster of street food stalls tucked under the railroad tracks, just a 20-minute walk from Karatsu Castle.
After meeting your guide and the group, you’ll stroll to the yatai area and visit up to two stalls. One stall is known for its extensive menu of 50 unique dishes.
You can sample local specialties such as squid shumai dumplings, avocado with boiled octopus, and fresh shellfish, or enjoy regional Kyushu favorites like champon, a Chinese-inspired noodle dish from Nagasaki.
