Experience Details
Just a short walk from Nippori Station, you will find yourself in Yanaka, a quiet Tokyo neighborhood that feels like a step back in time.
Known as a classic shitamachi area, Yanaka keeps the charm of old Tokyo with its quiet streets, small shops, and relaxed pace. It is also easy to reach from Ueno and a great choice if you want a local experience away from the city crowds.
Here, you will do more than just walk through the streets. You will spend time with local hosts and take part in two hands-on cultural activities that reflect everyday life in Japan.
Your experience begins with a cooking class focused on simple Japanese home-style food. You will learn how to shape onigiri rice balls and pair them with seasonal side dishes from local neighborhood shops.
With guidance from your host, you will arrange your own bento box, adding a personal touch before enjoying it with a warm bowl of miso soup.
After lunch, you will move into a calligraphy workshop led by a professional instructor. You will learn how to write basic Japanese characters and choose one to create your own artwork on colored paper.
This piece becomes a personal souvenir to take home. You can also have your design printed on a T-shirt or bag for an additional fee.
This experience brings together food, craft, and local connection, offering a simple and meaningful way to spend time in one of Tokyo’s most nostalgic neighborhoods.
