It was a fabulous experience, and definitely worth the price. The meal was artistically prepared and presented, and the server accommodated my dietary requests with substitutions once I saw the menu. The lady who performed and instructed the tea ceremony was very sweet; I can't imagine how many wagashi she has to eat every day! I will recommend to any friends who visit Tokyo.

I had an amazing time. The food, the kimono and the green tea ceremony was fantastic. Ayoko was able to share with us her Japanese culture. She was very knowledgeable. It was a great experience from the beginning to the end.

Had a great time with Emi-San and Jun-san who were patient, kind and enthusiastic hosts. This class is unique with the combination of mocktails and mochi character making. And it was basically private as there were only the two of us that I booked for. The characters were soo cute and surprisingly easy to make! They will for sure become a fun staple snack for me as someone who has trouble with gluten. Making the three mocktails instead of two was definitely worth it for the variation in flavours and possible alcoholic combinations (if that’s your speed). Super happy with this experience overall!

Mari-san talked us through the traditional method of a tea ceremony, including how they decorate the room and the symbolism of objects. She was dressed in the traditional kimono and we sat on cushions round a low table. She whisked the matcha and presented us with the tea. Then we did the same. She gave us two kinds of traditional sweets. The building is in central Beppu, easily reached on foot. The environment is not grand, it is above a cafe/shop and has the feeling of a home. The interpreter Nao -san spoke excellent English and was very pleasant. The experience took about an hour.

This was such an amazing experience! If you’re into cooking, Japanese sweets, or are just looking for something fun and unique to do while you’re in Japan I’d definitely recommend booking this tea lesson with Emi. My mom and I booked a private lesson for a small extra charge, and I definitely think it was worth it. This experience is something I’ll be recommending to all family and friends who visit Tokyo.

Our host, Kaori, was very nice and friendly. She patiently explained the steps for all the participants when it was their turn and answered any questions we had. It was very cool that apart from the actual tea ceremony experience, she also introduced us to some of the history behind tea ceremonies. My partner and I enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to anyone looking to experience a tea ceremony in a traditional building in Kyoto.

It was an incredible experience that exceeded expectations, the venue itself, with its rich history and context; the kindness of the person who assisted us in dressing in the beautiful kimono; the tea ceremony master; and the quality of the food (each of the four of us had our own opinion based on personal taste). I only have positive words to describe it, and I would absolutely recommend this experience.

This was one of our favourite experiences from our entire Japan trip! We were very impressed with how much was included as we got to wear a kimono, enjoy a delicious meal, learn to make matcha and have a tour of the gardens. The member of staff who spent the afternoon with us, Mayuko, was very friendly and knowledgable. Thank you Mayuko for such a lovely afternoon :)

Experience the Elegance of Gluten-Free Tea Ceremonies

Discover the sublime world of tea ceremonies that embrace gluten-free options, ensuring everyone can partake in this traditional and serene experience. Originating from Japan, the art of the tea ceremony, known as "chanoyu," is an exquisite cultural ritual that emphasizes harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility. In these carefully curated gluten-free tea ceremonies, you'll find a perfect balance between maintaining tradition and accommodating dietary preferences, allowing you to immerse yourself fully in this beautiful practice without concern for gluten-related restrictions.

What to Expect from a Gluten-Free Tea Ceremony

A gluten-free tea ceremony offers an authentic experience where you can enjoy traditional matcha tea and delicately prepared dishes free from gluten. You can expect a ceremonial preparation and presentation of matcha, often accompanied by wagashi, which are Japanese sweets. Typically made from rice flour and bean paste, these sweets are skillfully crafted to cater to gluten-free needs without sacrificing flavor or texture. With an expert tea master guiding you through each step, you will learn about the rich history and significance of each gesture and equipment used, such as the tea bowl, whisk, and kettle, enhancing your appreciation for Japanese culture and culinary precision.

Finding the Perfect Gluten-Free Tea Ceremony Experience

Your gluten-free tea ceremony adventure can take place in various serene settings, whether it's a traditional tatami-matted tea room, a tranquil garden, or even a modern setting designed to provide an authentic feel. Each venue ensures that the ambiance complements the respectfulness and mindfulness of the ceremony. When selecting a gluten-free tea ceremony to participate in, consider the different aspects, such as the duration of the ceremony, the type of tea and sweets offered, and any additional cultural activities, like ikebana (flower arrangement) or calligraphy, that could accompany your experience. These elements combine to offer a well-rounded understanding and appreciation of Japanese culture, all while adhering to a gluten-free diet.

Partaking in a gluten-free tea ceremony is an enriching experience that melds ancient customs with modern dietary needs, presenting a wonderful opportunity to learn and appreciate Japanese traditions. Whether you are an avid tea lover or simply seeking a calming and inclusive cultural activity, these experiences promise to leave you with lasting impressions and newfound knowledge, all while respecting your gluten-free dietary preferences.
