Very nice experience! Yuka-san was able to adjust the menu to my request (I wanted to try making sesame tofu) and taught me a lot about shojin ryori. Afterwards we went to the supermarket and she helped me to pick up the things I wanted to buy and take home with me. Thank you! ありがとうございます!

Yuka-san was an incredible and gracious hostess! My girlfriend and I learned so much and really enjoyed the peaceful and intimate atmosphere of our lesson. Shyōjin Ryōri is a beautiful art that encourages mindfulness, sustainability, and results in delicious food. I recommend Yuka-san’s lesson to anyone who wants to learn about Buddhist tradition, mindful cooking and gain peace of mind. She was so accommodating to our taste preferences and was able to make a last minute change to the recipe when we forgot to mention an allergy. We appreciated Yuka-san’s efforts to use seasonal vegetables. Additionally, her husband was incredibly kind and they have an adorable little finch that joined us for dinner! This was such a memorable experience and we highly recommend taking a cooking lesson with Yuka-san!

I enjoyed Yuka-san's cooking class a lot and would recommend it to anyone interested in Shojin Ryori, vegan cuisine or just good, healthy food in general. Yuka-san is a very sweet and calm person and answered my questions thoroughly. The food we prepared together was a feast for all senses - beautiful-looking and full of distinctive flavors, not to mention very tasty.

We were met on time at Cora Coffee. Her class was set up nicely in her home. She spoke wonderful English and answered all our questions. She was very encouraging in our attempts and onigiri and Japanese only making ability or lack thereof. The food was wonderful. I would highly recommend this for anyone who loves Japanese food. And your breakfast is taken care of for the day.

Experience the Art of Japanese Tea

Japanese tea is more than just a beverage; it's an intricate art form steeped in tradition and discipline that has been perfected over centuries. When you attend a Japanese tea class, you're not merely learning how to brew a cup of tea. You are embarking on a cultural journey that delves into the philosophy, history, and meticulous rituals that accompany every sip. These classes are designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the tea culture in Japan, from the different types of tea to the ceremonial practices that have been passed down through generations.

Understanding the Basics of Japanese Tea

Japanese tea classes often begin by introducing you to the main varieties of tea consumed in Japan, such as Sencha, Matcha, and Genmaicha. Each type of tea has its distinct flavor profile, preparation methods, and ceremonial significance that make it unique. In these classes, you will learn how to select the best quality leaves and the proper techniques to prepare each type of tea. Understanding the nuances of water temperature, steeping time, and even the types of utensils used can greatly affect the tea's flavor and overall experience. This foundational knowledge is key to appreciating the deeper elements of the tea culture you will explore.

Immerse Yourself in the Tea Ceremony

One of the highlights of a Japanese tea class is the opportunity to participate in a traditional tea ceremony, known as "chanoyu" or "sado." This ceremony is a choreographed art, where harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility are emphasized in every movement. You will learn how to handle the tea utensils correctly, focus on the aesthetics of the presentation, and understand the etiquette involved in serving and receiving the tea. This ceremonial aspect teaches the spiritual and cultural values that are at the heart of Japanese tea culture, enriching your appreciation and leaving you with a lasting impression of mindfulness and calm.
