A few days ago, we got to go on an awesome food tour by Keigo! Being brand new to Osaka, we wanted to book something a little more laid back than the usual tours in the centre and we absolutely loved this tour. I will try not to spoil too much of what you'll have, but I will say that we had some of the best food the week we spent in Japan there. Not only that, but all 4 locations were unique and really cool, too! I would definitely book this tour again in a heartbeat!

If you’re interested in checking out Yatai food stalls in Fukuoka, this is the way to do it! It’s also a great first-night adventure in the city because Bruce is extremely knowledgeable and shares generously. My partner and I spent 4+ hours with Bruce, and we’d do it again in a heartbeat. We walked all over the city and stopped in three different Yatai stalls, eating tapas/pintxos style. Every bite of food and each drink we tried was delicious. It was a great intro to Fukuoka/Hakata, and a perfect way to visit the Yatai stalls, which could be intimidating to navigate for the first time on your own.

Great way to start your Japan experience! We were lucky, our group was just 2 persons (just us 😉) so we had the full attention of our guide Masa. He gave a lot of information on the area and its history, on how to order in a restaurant, on the food etc. Gets you started for the rest of your Japan experience. Thanks!

My wife and I were travelling around Japan for five weeks, and thought a food tour in Osaka would be a nice way to end our trip. This was definitely the best choice we could have ever made. The food choices were delicious and very generous portions- thankfully we were hungry . We loved the food locations we visited. These are places we would have missed on our own, especially our fourth and last destination- an absolutely beautiful spot . We loved both the atmosphere and the dessert. With just three people on this tour, we were able to experience a very enjoyable and intimate event. Our guide, Keigo was excellent!! He chose the food, the locations, and even made the best suggestions on which drinks to try. He was the perfect host who made this awesome food tour a highlight of our vacation!!

We enjoyed a food tour which started out with 2 Izakayas in/near Omoide Yokocho. At each Izakaya, the tour company has negotiated a pre-set menu of many dishes and drinks. Each customer can then choose up to 3 food items and 3 drinks. The selection was quite good, we had 2 people with seafood allergies and there were still many outstanding things to choose from. The menus also offer a good variety - plenty of things that everyone likes, and a few exotic things for more adventerous travelers! The quality of the dishes were all quite good - we feel we are pretty knowledgeable culinary travelers and we were more than happy with the quality of the food and drink. The evening ended with drinks at one of the small bars in Golden Gai, We got a great tour of the Golden Gai area where we got to see the tiny unique bars and vibrant nightlife. The place we went to had an amazing selection of Japanese Whiskeys and even a few house-made(?) whiskey which was quite good.  The tour company was very easy to deal with - my tour was somewhat customized, and they were kind enough to arrange for our guide to meet us at our hotel, saving us from having to search and locate the designated meeting place.  Our guide, Masa was outstanding and a delightful, fun travel companion. He pointed out other sights all along our walking route, including a Shinto shrine and the Godzilla head. Our group is on the older side, and Masa's enthusiasm gave the whole tour a fun vibe for everyone!!!

Explore Authentic Yakitori Food Experiences

If you're a food enthusiast looking to delve into the rich culinary traditions of Japan, exploring yakitori food experiences is a must. Yakitori, which literally means "grilled chicken," is a beloved Japanese dish that has captivated palates around the world. These skewered and grilled chicken pieces are not just a meal; they represent a unique cultural experience deeply rooted in Japanese tradition.

When you embark on a yakitori food journey, you have the opportunity to experience this simple yet flavorful dish in all its authenticity. From the bustling streets of Shinjuku in Tokyo to quieter locales throughout Japan, yakitori stands, known as "yakiton" or "yakitori-ya," provide savory delights and a glimpse into local life. Each skewer is meticulously prepared with different parts of chicken, such as thigh, heart, and liver, often seasoned with either shio (salt) or tare (a sweet soy sauce-based glaze), offering a diverse range of tastes.

The Art of Yakitori Cooking

Yakitori is more than just grilling pieces of chicken; it is a culinary art form that involves precision and passion. Each yakitori chef has honed their craft over years, mastering the perfect balance of flavor, texture, and presentation. The grilling process is a spectacle in itself, often carried out over charcoal, which imparts a distinct smokiness to the skewers and enhances their flavor.

Participating in a dedicated yakitori class can provide insights into the skills and techniques used by seasoned chefs. You'll learn the importance of using fresh ingredients, the perfect grilling temperature, and timing to achieve that ideal balance between crispy skin and juicy meat. Whether you're learning the ropes as a novice or an amateur cook trying to refine your skills, this experience will immerse you completely in Japanese cooking culture.

Enjoying Yakitori with Sake

While yakitori in itself is an exquisite experience, pairing it with sake can elevate your culinary adventure to new heights. In Japan, yakitori is often enjoyed with a glass of sake, traditionally brewed rice wine, bringing out the rich umami flavors and adding depth to the tasting experience.

Many food tours and experiences integrate sake tasting, providing a chance to sample a variety of local brews. A knowledgeable guide can explain the intricacies of sake production, the differences in flavor profiles, and how each can complement different types of yakitori. From dry and crisp to rich and full-bodied, the combination of yakitori and sake makes for an unforgettable Japanese culinary journey.

Embarking on a yakitori food experience in Japan offers a perfect blend of taste, culture, and tradition. It's not just about the food, but also about experiencing the heart of Japanese hospitality and culinary artistry.
