Description
Nestled in the serene residential area of Kugahara in Ota City, Tokyo, Jinenbo is a hidden gem that offers an authentic taste of Japanese cuisine. Founded in 1991 by the self-taught chef Nakagawa Jinenbo, the restaurant has been passed down to his son, who continues to uphold the family tradition with dedication and passion.
Jinenbo specializes in tonkatsu, with a particular focus on hire katsu (fillet cutlet) and rosu katsu (loin cutlet), using premium Yamato pork sourced from Gunma Prefecture. The cooking technique is meticulous, with the tonkatsu being fried slowly at low temperatures in a copper pot using cottonseed oil. This method ensures a crispy exterior while maintaining the juiciness of the pork. The homemade breadcrumbs, rested for a day before frying, add an extra layer of texture to the dish.
The restaurant also offers a variety of 'katsu-mae' dishes and an extensive selection of Japanese sake, shochu, and wine. Diners can savor seasonal offerings like Nasu no Nibitashi (braised eggplant) and Sakuranbo no Asazuke (pickled cherries), all served in elegant Karatsu ware, adding a cultural touch to the dining experience.
Jinenbo's ambiance is both stylish and calming, with a strong bar-like atmosphere that makes it ideal for relaxed evenings. The interior, primarily decorated with wood, creates a clean and relaxing environment, perfect for enjoying the carefully curated menu.
Located just a short walk from Kugahara Station on the Tokyu Ikegami Line, Jinenbo is easily accessible, with parking available in front of the restaurant. Due to its popularity, reservations are recommended to secure a spot at this award-winning establishment, which has been featured in the Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand and recognized as one of the top 100 tonkatsu restaurants on Tabelog.
