This private masterclass brings you inside the world of traditional sushi making with three seasoned chefs, Yone, Hide, and Yutaka, who are passionate about sharing the craft behind Japan’s most iconic dish.
Using fresh seafood sourced directly from Kyoto Central Wholesale Market, you will learn how to prepare nigiri, gunkan, and hosomaki in a guided 2-hour session.
The experience is designed to be approachable, whether you're making sushi for the first time or you already have some kitchen experience.
All three chefs bring more than 10 years of sushi-making experience and teach in fluent English, making the class smooth and easy to follow from start to finish.
You begin by learning how to properly prepare sushi rice, then move step by step through shaping six types of nigiri and two types of maki rolls using a bamboo mat.
Along the way, the chefs explain techniques, timing, and the small details that make sushi both precise and satisfying.
Once everything is prepared, you sit down to enjoy your handmade sushi for lunch alongside your hosts. It is a relaxed moment to taste what you have created and share the experience with the group.
This class is rooted in traditional Japanese culinary practice. It focuses on quality ingredients, hands-on learning, and practical skills you can take home.
By the end, you will not just have enjoyed fresh sushi in Kyoto, but also gained the confidence to recreate it long after your trip.
