Experience Details

Step into a welcoming Osaka home and learn to make everyday comfort dishes with your host, Maya.

Born in Canada and raised in Osaka, Maya blends local tradition with an international perspective. With a background in hospitality, she creates a relaxed and comfortable space for guests. Her mother or sister, Arisa, may occasionally join, adding a warm family touch.

Inspired by her grandmother, who ran a shabu-shabu restaurant, Maya shares home-style recipes and techniques passed down through generations.

During the class, guests prepare a selection of Osaka favorites using fresh ingredients. Make okonomiyaki, a savory pancake cooked on a griddle with your choice of toppings, and yakisoba, stir-fried noodles with a rich, balanced sauce. For dessert, craft fruit daifuku, soft mochi filled with seasonal fruit.

After cooking, enjoy your meal with a beer or a can of chu-hi, a popular Japanese sparkling drink.

This experience includes a pair of chopsticks used during the class as a souvenir, along with digital recipes to recreate the dishes at home. Set in a quiet neighborhood near Osaka Tenmangu Shrine, the class offers a calm and personal way to connect with local food culture.

Maya and her family look forward to sharing their table and a meaningful moment together.
