Nagoya is famed for its Aka Miso (red soybean paste), so of course Nagoyans proudly use this regional miso paste in a variety of their local dishes. In fact, two of the three dishes on this food tour feature this delicious umami ingredient!
Have you already tried tonkatsu, the deep-fried pork cutlet with a perfectly crispy exterior? If you like tonkatsu, you’ll love Miso Katsu, the Nagoya version which is drizzled with a special miso sauce. Our first stop on this Nagoya food tour is to a restaurant serving up this classic local dish, with an incredibly tall side of cabbage.
Then, we’ll try Miso Nikomi Udon, an udon noodle dish served in a unique miso soup that’s a specialty of Nagoya. And if you think a normal serving is not enough for you, no problem, they also serve big sizes!* These udon chewy noodles are hearty and satisfying, while the broth packs a savory punch that’ll make your mouth water.
Lastly, we’ll end the tour at Nagoya's most famous izakaya. Izakaya are Japanese gastropub, where you can indulge in a variety of deep-fried snacks, skewers, and drinks.
