Sitting on the second floor of the well-lit Omori Bellport atrium in Shinagawa, Tokyo, Chunagon's Tokyo outpost distinguishes itself from its Osaka and Kobe siblings by offering an exclusive all-private dining area.

First established in Osaka in 1974, Chunagon was conceived from founder Tsutsumi Sei-ichi's vision to create a restaurant where the luxurious Japanese spiny lobster, or the ise-ebi, takes center stage. Revered for its association with prosperity and longevity, Chunagon has since become a cherished destination for families seeking a spread of this prized seafood for special occasions.

The Japanese spiny lobster is sourced from Japan, Australia and New Zealand, and expertly prepared in various ways by the master chef. Whether boiled to perfection, grilled with finesse, or delicately sliced into sashimi, the lobsters are kept alive in a tank until they are ready to be taken out.

For the beautiful platter of sashimi, the chef washes the shellfish with chilled sake to tighten its texture and coax out its sweetness. The lobster grill is slightly steamed with the rice wine, and the lobster salad made with boiled lobster and rice miso dressing has the vibrant red shell presented as the focal point of the plate.
