Gion Nishi

Down this narrow alley in the historic streets of Gion, you might expect to see a geisha step out at any moment, such is the classic vibe here. Turn into one of the doorways to access Gion Nishi, a fantastic kaiseki restaurant run by a husband and wife duo. The husband cooks up Kyo-ryori dishes using fresh fish and wild game such as bear, while the wife handles all of the hospitality wearing a traditional kimono. Their menu changes throughout the year, so every visit will be a surprise. Their dishes and sake are served with beautiful ceramic cups and plates which you would normally only find behind the glass in a museum.
