Thick-cut beef tongue grilled over charcoal, served with fluffy rice and full of umami. A must-visit Asakusa stop for meat lovers!

Restaurant Details

Gyutan no Lemon Asakusa is a specialty restaurant dedicated to thick-cut beef tongue grilled to perfection over binchotan charcoal. With the motto "Thick-cut gyutan is the best!" the restaurant has gained a loyal following on social media since its first location opened in Shinjuku in 2021. The Asakusa branch is the brand’s third location, following a successful expansion to Osaka.

The star of the menu is the “Kiwami” steak, featuring the rarest and most tender part of the beef tongue — the tan-moto, or tongue root. Only a small portion of each tongue can be used, and it’s cut extra thick to emphasize its juiciness and rich flavor. The meat is expertly seared at high heat to create a crispy exterior, then slow-cooked to ensure a tender, mouthwatering bite. It’s served alongside fluffy rice cooked in a traditional hagama pot, made from a special blend of seasonal rice curated by a long-established rice merchant. The slightly firm texture of the rice complements the meaty gyutan perfectly, bringing out its natural umami.

The restaurant interior features four counter seats and 42 table seats, offering a bright, open atmosphere for both solo diners and groups. Just a 5-minute walk from Asakusa Station (Tsukuba Express), Gyutan no Lemon is a convenient and satisfying stop between sightseeing and shopping adventures in one of Tokyo’s most iconic neighborhoods.
