Experience Details
The Shonai region of Yamagata boasts stunning natural attractions (such as the Michelin Green Guide-rated Three Mountains of Dewa), high-quality rice, and a variety of fruits and vegetables which contribute to their unique local cuisine.
During this food tour of Shonai, guests can experience cultural activities interspersed with delicious local food. First up is a trip to the Kamo Aquarium, listed by the Guinness World Records for their jellyfish exhibition. Enjoy the relaxing dance of the jellyfish in the ethereal Jellyfish Dream Theater, a 16-foot moon-shaped tank.
For lunch, visit a local farmer’s restaurant in Shonai and have a meal comprised of local vegetables while gazing out at the idyllic rural landscape.
Then, you’ll learn how to make e-rosoku, a traditional craft of Tsuruoka, at Togashi Candle Shop where you’ll decorate candles with paint and create your own original design. It’s a calming experience that’s fun for groups of families and friends!
The last stop of this Shonai tour is Aomori-ya, where dessert awaits! Taste their seasonal fruit tart, alongside tea and fruit juices.
