Experience Details
Experience traditional Japanese cuisine (washoku) in a welcoming class in Osaka, designed to accommodate a variety of dietary needs.
Washoku is known for its nutritious, seasonal ingredients. Still, this beginner-friendly class teaches everyone to make a meal using the ichiju sansai structure: one soup and three dishes, with alternative ingredients. Gluten-free, halal, vegetarian, vegan, and soybean-free options are available.
Ichiju sansai dates back to the Muromachi period, beginning as a banquet-style meal for the upper class and samurai and later becoming the cornerstone of washoku.
Your host is a warm, experienced instructor specializing in yakuzen, or Japanese holistic cooking, with years of restaurant expertise. Meet near Namba Station and enjoy a short stroll through the bustling shopping district to her home kitchen.
The class begins with a discussion about Japanese culture and lifestyle before you get hands-on in the kitchen. You’ll prepare rice (gohan), a main dish, two side dishes, and miso soup. The host adjusts ingredients and seasonings to suit vegetarian or halal needs.
After cooking, relax and savor your meal with green tea while chatting with your host and learning more about Japanese culinary traditions.
