Noriko is a wonderful, great, friendly and funny lady. She has a lot of knowledge about Japanese history and loves to share that. She’s an excellent kimono-sensei (teacher), has a great selection of very precious kimonos, also in big sizes. She’s a wonderful matcha teacher; serves delicious green tea with traditional Japanese sweet, while she explains the history of tea ceremonies.

The kimono dressing and Japanese tea ceremony was a wonderful, immersive experience. Being dressed in a traditional kimono was a unique way to connect with Japanese culture, and the tea ceremony that followed was just as fascinating. The host’s enthusiasm brought each step to life, and I learned so much about the traditions. A truly special experience I’d recommend to anyone wanting to explore Japanese culture in a beautiful, meaningful way.

Experience the Serenity of a Traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony

The Japanese tea ceremony, also known as "chanoyu," is a fascinating cultural activity that goes beyond merely enjoying a cup of tea. It is a spiritual practice that emphasizes etiquette, aesthetics, and the subtle beauty of simplicity. This unique experience allows participants to step into a world of Japanese tradition, history, and mindfulness, making it an unforgettable activity for anyone visiting Japan.

During a Japanese tea ceremony, each movement is deliberate, each gesture graceful, and each element methodically chosen. The host performs the ceremony with precision, respecting centuries-old customs while personalizing the experience for the guests. This creates an atmosphere of tranquility and respect, which allows everyone to appreciate both the ritual and the rich flavor of the matcha tea typically used in these ceremonies.

Explore the Art of Matcha Preparation and Presentation

Matcha, a finely ground green tea, is at the heart of the Japanese tea ceremony. Its preparation is a meticulous process that accentuates the tea's vibrant color, earthy aroma, and rich flavor. During your tea ceremony experience, you'll gain insight into the delicate preparation of matcha. This includes how the tea powder is carefully whisked with hot water to create a smooth, frothy drink. The tea is then served in beautiful handcrafted bowls, each one unique and chosen to reflect the current season and mood of the ceremony.

Learning to appreciate matcha involves more than just taste; it is also about understanding the textures, aromas, and even the sound of the whisking. As you sip the matcha, you'll be encouraged to reflect mindfully on the experience, offering a moment of peaceful contemplation amidst the usual hustle and bustle.

Discover the Cultural and Historical Significance

The Japanese tea ceremony is deeply rooted in Japanese culture and history. Originating in the 9th century, it evolved significantly during the 16th century under the influence of the tea master Sen no Rikyū, who emphasized the principles of harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility. Each tea ceremony is a reflection of these principles, serving as a medium to foster deep social bonds and personal introspection.

Participating in a tea ceremony is also an educational journey, a way to understand important aspects of Japanese culture, such as Zen Buddhism and the quest for tranquility and simplicity. The teahouse setting, designed with minimalistic beauty in mind, further enhances this cultural experience. By attending a Japanese tea ceremony, you're not just tasting tea; you're immersing yourself in a cultural practice that has been perfected over centuries.

Whether you are a tea enthusiast or someone interested in exploring Japanese traditions, the tea ceremony offers a tranquil escape and an opportunity to connect with others in a meaningful way. It's an experience that beautifully captures the essence of Japanese hospitality and their profound appreciation for the art of tea making.
