Description
Good to Know
In the heart of Sakae, Nagoya’s busy downtown district in Japan, Nagoya Sakae Sushi Eika offers a quieter way to spend an evening. The restaurant sits on the ground floor of a building in Nishiki 3-chome, a short walk from Sakae Station, and has served Edomae-style sushi here since 2022, when it opened under its former name, Sushi Tsu.
Inside, there are just 11 seats. Guests can sit at the counter, close enough to follow each piece from the chef’s hands to the plate, or reserve one of the private rooms, which suit groups of two to eight. The setting feels calm and composed, a deliberate pause from the streets outside.
The kitchen builds its omakase courses around natural seafood and ingredients chosen for the season, weaving small kaiseki-style dishes between rounds of nigiri. Rather than serving everything at once, the meal unfolds in a steady rhythm, with each course setting the stage for the next.
Dinner courses range from 18 to 25 dishes. A typical evening opens with a trio of appetizers and moves on to seasonal sashimi. The first round of nigiri follows, then small seasonal dishes and a rice bowl topped with sea urchin, joined in the more elaborate courses by salmon roe and caviar. A second round of nigiri, a half roll, chawanmushi, and a closing soup lead gently to dessert. At lunch, omakase menus of 13 to 22 dishes offer an easier introduction to the same Japanese cuisine.
When the last bowl is cleared, what lingers is the warmth of freshly pressed rice and the unhurried pace of a meal shaped entirely by the season.
