"Conveyor belt sushi on the upper deck, with Tokyo passing by."
Conveyor belt sushi is one of the everyday pleasures of Japanese cuisine, and in Tokyo it has found an unexpected new setting. SUSHI BUS runs a sushi lane along the upper deck of an open-top double-decker bus, which leaves Kajibashi Parking Lot, a short walk from Tokyo Station, and circles the capital of Japan for about 70 minutes.
Twenty guests are seated upstairs, at tables and chairs made specially for the bus; two premium seats in the front row look out over the road ahead. The deck is open to the sky; in rain, a transparent roof closes overhead. The route shifts with road conditions, the hour and the season, and may pass Tokyo Tower, the Imperial Palace, the National Diet Building or the Kaminarimon gate in Asakusa.* After dark, city lights slide across the tabletops.
Chefs shape the sushi in the kitchen on the lower deck. Seafood arrives directly from an intermediate wholesaler at Toyosu Market, cut to the weights the team specifies. Finished plates travel upstairs by lift to the lane beside the seats, and an onboard guide looks after guests in Japanese and English.
Between 10 and 15 toppings make up the selection, which changes with the day's market. Among them is bluefin tuna: medium-fatty chutoro and lean akami, each cut to 12 grams a piece. Sushi is served without limit throughout the ride, and one drink, alcoholic or not, is included.
There is no destination here, only the circuit. The plates keep turning, the streets keep passing, and for a little over an hour Tokyo becomes the dining room.

What a FUN concept! If you're planning on jumping on a sightseeing bus while in Tokyo anyway, why not enjoy it with some great sushi along the ride. I was extremely impressed by how they made this work. The sushi was made fresh downstairs and then delivered on a surprisingly secure conveyor belt along the perimeter of the bus (no flying fish!). The bus was driving relatively slow throughout Tokyo traffic and although I was sitting backwards I didn't experience any motion sickness which I normall...read more

I had a great time on the Sushi Bus and would recommend it to both visitors and people who already know Tokyo well. The experience starts near Tokyo Station. When the weather allows, the second-floor roof opens completely, offering fresh air and a wonderful sense of openness. The bright red bus looks like a giant tuna driving through Tokyo, attracting plenty of attention. People on the street took photos and waved at us as the sushi started coming around. There are around 15 kinds of sushi. What...read more

First time ever experiencing sushi on a bus! This is definitely for anyone looking to explore a new way into what Tokyo has to offer. You get to sightsee Tokyo’s beautiful iconic locations while enjoying fresh sushi served right by you on a conveyor belt! The energy is lively, and the staff are incredibly welcoming from start to finish. The sushi is all-you-can-eat, with a drink included, all while the change of scenery complements your dining experience. It was truly refreshing!

I joined this experience on a beautiful autumn afternoon with a refreshing breeze. The route that day took us past Asakusa and Tokyo Skytree.
The meeting point at Kajibashi Parking Lot was easy to find and conveniently located just a short walk from Tokyo Station. As soon as we boarded the bus, the cheerful staff welcomed us in Japanese, which made the experience even more exciting!
The open roof offered fantastic views and made it easy to take great photos along the way. The sushi was excellent...read more

This was a great experience. You enjoy sushi on the open upper deck of a bus while it drives through Tokyo, and the views along the way are amazing. The highlight for me was passing right under Tokyo Tower while eating. When the weather is good, sitting in the open air makes it feel even more special.
The sushi is all you can eat, and the quality is better than what you find at the average conveyor belt sushi chain. I was pleasantly surprised by that.
It is also fun to see how much attention t...read more
