Yuko was a great host and taught us how to make Nerikiri in a very easy to understand manner. It was amazing that we, who had no experience in Japanese confectionery making, could make such beautiful Nerikiri!! It was a wonderful experience!! Thank you, Yuko!

I loved my experience with Yuko-San. She was a very sweet lady who wants to make sure you get the best experience possible. The cooking was pretty fast paced but it's because she wants you to have the time slow down and enjoy the sweets you made while drinking a cup of tea and chatting with her. She is interested in you and wants to know about your story. If you learn Japanese before booking this class, you will gain even more from this experience since you will able to connect with her even more. I truly think she makes the experience worth it. It is much better than a step by step Youtube video. It felt more personal. Arigatō gozaimasu Yuko-San

Yuko-san provided us with a wonderful history of Wagashi before the course started and showed us what we would be making. We had so much fun learning about Japanese sweets. I highly recommend stopping here in Tokyo on your next trip. It’s worth it just to explore the beautiful neighbourhood and get to eat delicious s.weets and matcha tea. Yuko was a gracious host.

We had such an exceptional experience! A sincere thank you to our host, Kaoru, who thought through every detail end-to-end to ensure a seamless experience. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it - not only the fantastic mochi lesson, but most importantly her company and the time she took to explain mochi's significance in the Japanese culture. This made such a great memory for our trip that our family will cherish for a lifetime. We will book another lesson with Kaoru the next time we are in Tokyo for sure. Thank you again! ❤️

I had a wonderful session and learned to be more appreciative of the skills and techniques required to produce such an intricate piece of edible art. My instructor was very supportive but my skills were lacking to produce a reasonably product. My advice to anyone who is interested in this is to keep practicing and be patient with yourself. Don’t expect to create anything spectacular on the first attempt.

This is the best class for anyone who loves cooking. It is also a new and fun class for those who don't like cooking. Also, this cafe, which hosts this tour, is very friendly and caring to everyone. It has various souvenirs made with kome rice, and it is a very nice cafe that is eco-friendly. I will try to make onigiri in the way they taught me. If you go to Tokyo, Japan, you should definitely take this class. Not only will you have fun, you can also eat your own delicious onigiri. この店最高 :)

Discover the Art of Vegan Wagashi in Tokyo

If you're a vegan or simply interested in exploring plant-based delights, Tokyo offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the elegant world of Wagashi, traditional Japanese sweets. These delicacies, typically crafted with ingredients like sweet beans, rice flour, and fruit pastes, come in a variety of vegan options that ensure delicious flavors without compromising on dietary preferences. In Tokyo, numerous classes welcome both beginners and seasoned jewelers of Japanese cuisine, guiding you through the process of creating these intricate confections.

Hands-on Vegan Wagashi Classes

The classes available in Tokyo are structured to provide a comprehensive hands-on experience. You will begin with a brief introduction to Wagashi's historical significance and its role in Japanese culture, particularly in tea ceremonies. The instructors, skilled in traditional techniques, will demonstrate how to craft these sweets using vegan-friendly ingredients. Soy milk, agar-agar, and plant-based coloring agents replace animal products, making the sweets suitable for everyone. Participants often find the process meditative, as it requires attention to detail and an appreciation for the aesthetics involved in Wagashi.

Why Choose Tokyo for Vegan Wagashi Classes?

Tokyo, a city that harmoniously blends tradition with innovation, is the perfect location to learn about Wagashi. While the city is renowned for its bustling streets and cutting-edge technology, it also preserves a rich culinary heritage. By participating in a Wagashi class here, you get to experience the best of both worlds—traditional sweets made vegan in a modern setting. Many classes also offer additional cultural insights, such as the symbolism of different shapes and colors used in Wagashi and their significance in festivals and celebrations. Whether you are vegan, a culinary enthusiast, or someone seeking a new experience, these classes promise an enriching journey into the sweet art of Wagashi.
