We had such an exceptional experience! A sincere thank you to our host, Kaoru, who thought through every detail end-to-end to ensure a seamless experience. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it - not only the fantastic mochi lesson, but most importantly her company and the time she took to explain mochi's significance in the Japanese culture. This made such a great memory for our trip that our family will cherish for a lifetime. We will book another lesson with Kaoru the next time we are in Tokyo for sure. Thank you again! ❤️

I had a wonderful session and learned to be more appreciative of the skills and techniques required to produce such an intricate piece of edible art. My instructor was very supportive but my skills were lacking to produce a reasonably product. My advice to anyone who is interested in this is to keep practicing and be patient with yourself. Don’t expect to create anything spectacular on the first attempt.

This is the best class for anyone who loves cooking. It is also a new and fun class for those who don't like cooking. Also, this cafe, which hosts this tour, is very friendly and caring to everyone. It has various souvenirs made with kome rice, and it is a very nice cafe that is eco-friendly. I will try to make onigiri in the way they taught me. If you go to Tokyo, Japan, you should definitely take this class. Not only will you have fun, you can also eat your own delicious onigiri. この店最高 :)

This was a fantastic experience. The instructor was clearly very knowledgeable and experienced (and made sculpting look deceptively easy!). After watching an instruction video with english subtitles, we were given two practice opportunities to create Amezaiku rabbits using unrefined sugar before going at our third and final attempt using refined sugar. Our creations were nowhere near as refined as the instructor's examples, but the process was hilarious and we were permitted to take photos and videos/time lapses of it all. At the end, we were also encouraged to take photos of our final sculptures in front of some lovely washi/patterned cardstock.

Our friend group did this cooking class together on our first trip to Japan and the ladies were both so sweet and helpful. Everything we learned to make was much easier than expected and the printed instructions are so easy for us to follow at home for a delicious traditional meal.

We had a really great time making taiyaki and Anmitsu, so much so that we immediately bought our own taiyaki pan! Worth mentioning that we both have severe allergies and Yuko went to great lengths to accommodate us including sending us pictures of packets to confirm ingredients would be ok and offering to source alternatives if necessary. The class was very organized, the cooking area was clean and tidy, and we generally had a fantastic experience. Highly recommend!

Discover the Art of Pescetarian Wagashi Classes

Experience the delightful harmony of aesthetics and flavor with our Pescetarian Wagashi Classes. These unique food experiences are designed for those who appreciate the intricate world of Japanese confectionery while maintaining a pescetarian lifestyle. Whether you're a seasoned cook or an enthusiastic beginner, these classes offer a perfect blend of education and enjoyment, helping you master the art of Wagashi, the traditional Japanese sweets known for their beauty and taste.

Wagashi is more than just a sweet treat; it is a reflection of Japanese culture and seasonality, often enjoyed with tea or as a standalone delicacy. Our classes cater to pescetarians by ensuring that all ingredients used in making Wagashi are carefully selected to adhere to pescetarian dietary guidelines, excluding meat and incorporating ingredients like agar-agar instead of gelatin.

Immerse Yourself in Traditional Techniques

During our Pescetarian Wagashi Classes, participants are guided through the traditional methods of Wagashi creation. You will learn the nuances of crafting these exquisite sweets, which often mimic the seasons in their appearance and taste. The classes involve hands-on experience in making different variations, such as the delightful mochi, sweet bean paste fillings, and other seasonal motifs. Each session is thoughtfully curated to impart skills that can transform simple ingredients into works of art.

As a participant, you'll receive step-by-step instructions from experienced chefs who are well-versed in both the culinary and cultural aspects of Wagashi. This immersive experience ensures that you gain not just technical skills, but also an appreciation for the cultural significance of these sweets. It's an opportunity to deepen your understanding of how traditional techniques can be adapted to fit a modern, pescetarian lifestyle.

Enjoy a Unique Culinary Journey

Our Pescetarian Wagashi Classes are more than just cooking lessons; they are an exploration of flavors and art. As you shape and mold the sweets, you'll discover the delicate balance of flavors, from the subtly sweet ogura-an (red bean paste) to the refreshing yuzuno-kimochi (yuzu-flavored mochi). Each class concludes with a tasting session, allowing you to savor the fruits of your labor alongside like-minded individuals who share your dietary preferences and culinary interests.

Whether you're looking to refine your culinary skills, deepen your connection to Japanese culture, or simply enjoy the meditative process of creating something beautiful and delicious, our Pescetarian Wagashi Classes provide a pathway to a deeper appreciation of this art form. Join us and discover the joy of making and tasting these elegant confections, perfectly aligned with a pescetarian diet.
