Yuko was a great host and taught us how to make Nerikiri in a very easy to understand manner. It was amazing that we, who had no experience in Japanese confectionery making, could make such beautiful Nerikiri!! It was a wonderful experience!! Thank you, Yuko!

I loved my experience with Yuko-San. She was a very sweet lady who wants to make sure you get the best experience possible. The cooking was pretty fast paced but it's because she wants you to have the time slow down and enjoy the sweets you made while drinking a cup of tea and chatting with her. She is interested in you and wants to know about your story. If you learn Japanese before booking this class, you will gain even more from this experience since you will able to connect with her even more. I truly think she makes the experience worth it. It is much better than a step by step Youtube video. It felt more personal. Arigatō gozaimasu Yuko-San

Yuko-san provided us with a wonderful history of Wagashi before the course started and showed us what we would be making. We had so much fun learning about Japanese sweets. I highly recommend stopping here in Tokyo on your next trip. It’s worth it just to explore the beautiful neighbourhood and get to eat delicious s.weets and matcha tea. Yuko was a gracious host.

We had such an exceptional experience! A sincere thank you to our host, Kaoru, who thought through every detail end-to-end to ensure a seamless experience. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it - not only the fantastic mochi lesson, but most importantly her company and the time she took to explain mochi's significance in the Japanese culture. This made such a great memory for our trip that our family will cherish for a lifetime. We will book another lesson with Kaoru the next time we are in Tokyo for sure. Thank you again! ❤️

I had a wonderful session and learned to be more appreciative of the skills and techniques required to produce such an intricate piece of edible art. My instructor was very supportive but my skills were lacking to produce a reasonably product. My advice to anyone who is interested in this is to keep practicing and be patient with yourself. Don’t expect to create anything spectacular on the first attempt.

Discover Vegan Wagashi Delights in Tokyo

Tokyo, a city known for its culinary innovation, offers a plethora of food experiences that cater to diverse dietary preferences, including vegan options. If you have a penchant for traditional Japanese sweets, or wagashi, you're in for a treat! Tokyo's vibrant food scene creatively blends traditional recipes with modern twists, making it a paradise for those seeking vegan-friendly wagashi experiences.

Wagashi is a quintessential part of Japanese culture, often crafted to reflect the beauty of nature and the changing seasons. With a focus on quality and artistry, these delicate sweets are typically made from plant-based ingredients such as sweet azuki bean paste, rice flour, and various seasonal fruits. This naturally makes them a great choice for vegans looking to indulge without compromising on taste or tradition.

Explore the Vegan Wagashi Scene

In Tokyo, you can find numerous specialized establishments offering vegan wagashi. These places are committed to preserving the rich heritage of wagashi while ensuring that their creations are entirely plant-based. Walking into these shops, you'll be greeted with an array of wagashi that are as visually appealing as they are delicious. From beautifully shaped nerikiri, which is made from white bean paste and rice flour, to the chewy texture of daifuku, each piece provides a delightful experience for your taste buds.

Many places also offer vegan mochi – a soft, chewy rice cake that often envelops a sweet filling. It's an ideal treat for any time of the day, perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth without the guilt. Beyond the traditional flavors, innovative chefs in Tokyo are experimenting with novel combinations, such as matcha-infused treats and fruits like yuzu or sakura, providing a new dimension to the wagashi experience.

Enjoy Vegan-Friendly Atmosphere

Beyond the exquisite flavors and aesthetic appeal, the experience of enjoying vegan wagashi in Tokyo extends to the atmosphere of the locations themselves. Many of these spots offer serene settings where you can savor your sweets with a warm cup of tea, as is customary in Japanese culture. This harmonious atmosphere enhances the overall experience as you indulge in these delightful vegan creations.

Moreover, you will often find that the staff in these establishments are knowledgeable about vegan diets and eager to share insights into the ingredients and the creation process of their wagashi. This adds an educational element to the experience, enriching your appreciation of the craft and care that goes into making each piece.

Whether you are a local resident or a traveler exploring Tokyo, diving into the vegan wagashi scene offers a unique and satisfying way to connect with Japanese culture. It's a memorable culinary journey that harmonizes tradition with modern dietary practices, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the art of wagashi harmoniously. Don't miss out on the opportunity to taste these traditional Japanese sweets with a vegan twist!
