I spent nearly two weeks in Tokyo, with so many amazing experiences, but the very best one came on my final full day, when I had my private whiskey tasting with Ryo. Along with her assistants Momo and Madoka, Ryo met me at the train station, first taking me on a lovely tour of the nearby Hanazono Shrine on our way to the bar. Tucked away on the second floor of a building in the iconic Golden Gai district, Ryo’s bar has a wonderful elegant, simple design. And she pulled out all the stops, even going so far as to ask for a list of my favorite music, days in advance. (Which is how I found myself enjoying some of the very best Japanese whiskeys while listening to Velvet Underground, Charles Mingus, Talking Heads and more.) The flight she’d curated was, in a word, perfect. I won’t say what the whiskeys are, as I’m guessing the flights will evolve over time, but suffice it to say, the progression of whiskeys were exceptionally well planned — treating me to a wonderful display, chiseling a round ice sphere from a cube along the way. The flights were served with the perfect bites, including cheese, nuts, fruit and chocolates, each complimenting the flight in their own way. Included in the menu were a wonderful savory soup and maybe the best onigiri I had on my trip. (Altogether, quite filling.) If you truly appreciate both whiskey and unparalleled service, this is for you. And I can tell you without question, I will never forget this experience.

This was truly exceptional. We tried so many different types of teas, and learned so much more about the different types of green tea, how to dial in the brewing for each type, where it comes from and how to pick quality teas. The host was very friendly and informative, very fluent in English, and his hospitality was amazing. 10/10 would recommend to my friends, and would take people there if they had even a little curiosity or interest about tea.

Tokyo Tea Tasting: 12 Types of Matcha, Sencha, & Gyokuro

I work in the spirits & tourism industry and this was a truly special experience. Our guide was very knowledgeable, professional and personable and an excellent host. The information shared on the tasting was, at first glance, quite surface level, but we asked quite a lot of questions and so were given a good deal of extra information which went further than what was presented. The samples served were all delicious, and very different from each other, and very generous in amount as well. We learnt a lot and would definitely recommend this to other guests. Thank you for having us!

We had such an amazing experience with our private sake tasting, we highly recommend! Before booking this class, I conducted a lot of research of different sake tasting classes. I loved that this class was only a few hours and tailored to our taste buds. The location was very convenient and intimate. We learned a lot about the history of sake and how it's brewed. We really loved tasting so many different types of sake from all over Japan and had little snack throughout. They poured us sake that we was to our taste preference, which was really ideal. We can't recommend this unique and special sake tasting enough.
