An Unforgettable Sushi Experience in Tokyo! I visited Okuakasaka Sushi Tanji with two friends, and it was easily one of our favorite dining experiences in Japan. The minimalist interior creates a peaceful and elegant atmosphere from the moment you walk in. Every dish felt refined and carefully prepared. Each piece of sushi had a wonderful balance of umami, sweetness, and saltiness. The aged fish was buttery and tender, pairing beautifully with the warm, seasoned sushi rice. The aged tuna nigiri was a highlight, as was the straw-grilled smoked fish with its wonderful aroma. The beautiful Japanese ceramics also made every course a pleasure to look at. The chefs and staff were warm and welcoming and spoke excellent English, making the experience very comfortable for international guests. The intimate hinoki cypress counter also added to the special atmosphere. One of the best surprises came at the end. We were led into a hidden traditional tatami tea room, where the chef prepared fresh matcha served with a seasonal wagashi sweet. It was a peaceful and memorable way to finish the evening. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a special omakase experience in Tokyo!

The food at Sushi Tanji was the main highlight of the experience. Each piece of sushi felt carefully prepared, with a good balance between the softness of the fish and the texture of the rice. Some pieces were richer and fattier, while others were lighter and cleaner, so the omakase never felt repetitive. The flavours were fresh, delicate and well balanced rather than overly salty or heavy. What surprised me most was the dessert at the end. The matcha was prepared in front of me in a small traditional room, which made it feel much more special. It was slightly bitter and earthy, and it paired perfectly with the muscat daifuku. The daifuku was soft and chewy, while the muscat inside was extremely juicy and sweet. Honestly, the matcha and muscat daifuku were probably my favourite part of the whole meal. The sushi was excellent, but that final combination was what I remembered most after leaving.

such a special and memorable experience! 🍣🍵✨ The sushi was amazing, and I loved how the chefs explained where each fish came from. I could ask questions and even learn how to pronounce some of the fish names in Japanese, so I actually learned a lot during the meal. I normally don’t like squid or scallop, but this was the first sushi restaurant where I genuinely enjoyed the scallop! But the absolute highlight was the tea ceremony. 🍵 I had never experienced matcha like this before. I always thought matcha prepared with water was supposed to be very bitter, but this was incredibly smooth, rich and delicious. We were also served a traditional Japanese sweet alongside it, which was the perfect way to finish the experience. I was also completely surprised by the hidden tea room! The whole concept is so unique and intimate, and I think it would be perfect for a birthday, anniversary, date, or any special occasion. If you’re travelling all the way to Japan, I really believe you should treat yourself to experiences like this. It’s so much more than just dinner it’s food, Japanese culture, hospitality and craftsmanship all in one unforgettable experience. The chefs were also incredibly polite and welcoming… and very handsome men, I have to say.

Not your usual yakiniku. The course menu lets you taste wagyu in different forms, like a stew and a beef tail soup, plus different cuts such as tongue. The meat quality was great, every course was delicious, and the staff were very friendly. It is right next to Omotesando Station (Exit B3), so it is very easy to find.

Incredible food. It was slightly difficult to find in basement of building and it’s an extremely…extremely busy area. We aimed to arrive 15 minutes early and drive that was supposed to be 20 minutes took 45. They were very kind and still allowed us to enjoy meal. Chef and team were incredible and each course prepared to perfection. Highly recommend Ajuta.

Our experience at YAKINIKUMAFIA IKEBURO was fantastic, and the highlight was definitely the meat. The wagyu was incredibly tender and flavorful, and each cut had its own texture and taste. The show when they cut the meat was also very entertaining and fun! I especially enjoyed experiencing the wagyu in different ways throughout the meal. The richness of the meat paired well with the other dishes, and every course felt carefully thought out. The ramen at the end was a nice touch. The broth had a deep, rich flavor and was a satisfying way to finish the meal. The staff were incredibly kind and energetic. Their enthusiasm made the atmosphere lively and fun while still feeling professional. Overall, the high-quality wagyu, variety of flavors and textures, and great service made this a memorable experience. I would happily recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy Japanese wagyu in a fun and welcoming atmosphere.

Had dinner at Yakiniku Mafia Ikebukuro and really enjoyed it. The meat was fantastic. I go to yakiniku places pretty often and like trying different grades of meat, and the quality here was definitely up there. Everything tasted great on its own, to the point where you really didn’t need any extra seasoning. Usually a good sign when the meat is that good. I also really liked the seating. They have this huge counter that seats around 25 people, which is pretty unusual compared to the smaller 8-seat counters you often see in omakase places. It gives the whole place a lively, open atmosphere. There are also regular tables in the back if you’re coming with a group. Next, the staff. Super high energy, very respectful, and they took the time to explain everything properly. You could tell they actually cared about how the food was presented and served. We were a group of four, and if I had one small improvement, I probably would’ve liked just a little more meat. But with the veggies and the final “ramen” they cook using all the flavor from the meat, we all still left satisfied. Easy 5 stars from me. Would definitely go back, which I don’t say quite often! Arigato!

How can I reserve restaurants in Tokyo?

You can always reserve a seat at a restaurant in Tokyo by making a direct phone call to the restaurant itself. However, as not all staff speak English, this can often be very difficult due to the language barrier. In some cases, certain restaurants will allow reservations in English via their website. Although, when this is not the case, you can make a reservation via an online platform. There are many sites which are designed to help foreigners make restaurant reservations in Tokyo and greater Japan. ByFood is one such platform where you can go to book experiences and make reservations at restaurants in Japan. The platform allows you to filter restaurants in Japan by area, food, and other preferences, making it easy to choose a restaurant and make a reservation. All you have to do is select the restaurant in Tokyo where you’d like to place a reservation and add your reservation details. ByFood will make the reservation on your behalf and send you a confirmation email. In the event that the reservation fails, you will receive a failed reservation email.

Is a reservation required for all restaurants in Tokyo?

This depends on the restaurant. Casual restaurants and chain restaurants in Tokyo generally do not require a reservation, however if you are in a big group, it can be a good idea to place a reservation ahead. Premium and high-end restaurants tend to require reservations, especially those which are popular and are all booked 2 or 3 months in advance. It is not possible to reserve at some casual restaurants like diners or some izakayas.

What is the average cost of a meal at restaurants in Tokyo?

A meal at a regular restaurant in Tokyo will generally cost somewhere between ¥1,000 and ¥3,000 for a meal, depending on the restaurant. If you’re on a budget, keep in mind that options tend to be cheaper during lunchtime. Fine dining restaurants can start at around ¥4,000 per person and even cost more than ¥20,000 per meal.
