Restaurant Details
Kyokaiseki Minokichi is a Japanese gourmet paradise, where historic tradition is brought to the table. First starting operations at the height of the Edo period in 1716, the restaurant is one of the most historic in Japan. Their extensive history includes being one of eight restaurants approved to serve river fish in Kyoto by the Shoshidai, serving as a shelter for rebels of the imperial restoration towards the end of the Edo era, to gathering publicity in publications since the 19th century.
In 1969, it was officially commended by Torazaro Ninagawa, Kyoto’s then-governor, and was awarded the 5th Annual Minister’s Award for Overseas Promotion of Japanese Food by the Japan Food Industry Center.
Every meal served in Kyokaiseki Minokichi thus invites guests to contribute to its ongoing story. From its eighth-floor location overlooking Osaka’s Temmabashi district, diners can simultaneously savor both the food and the view of the Okawa River and Nakanoshima sandbank. The elegant yet comfortable Japanese-style interior tastefully frames the restaurant’s sophisticated dishes.
The restaurant’s menu changes monthly, ensuring a culinary experience that promises a new experience for the taste buds with each visit. Each course is stunningly presented, making use of fresh seafood and top-notch seasonal ingredients. It is said to taste best in summer, but the restaurant’s signature unaju — grilled freshwater eel over rice — is delicious all year round.
