Experience Details
Make a traditional Japanese bento alongside a Nara prefecture local! During this hands-on culinary experience, you’ll learn how to cook tamagoyaki (a Japanese rolled omelet), tsukune (chicken meatballs), a tasty teriyaki sauce, and a special way of preparing rice on a stove. Following the savory portion of the class, you’ll learn how to make a famous regional dessert called warabi-mochi. Finish the session by learning how to arrange a Japanese table setting and the art of wrapping a bento box using furoshiki cloth – All of which you can take home with you at the end of the class! Cooking and sipping aside, this is no ordinary culinary experience – Yasuyo, your host, is a Nara prefecture local whose family has passed down original recipes through the generations. However, this class is not just about cooking but also about staying positive and how cooking contributes to positive mental health. Yasuyo believes that cooking is a chance to reconnect with simple joys often lost in daily life's chaos: connecting with loved ones, the satisfaction of hands-on experiences, the beauty of nature, and feeling gratitude for being alive. Coming together to cook and share a meal is a way to create precious memories and connect with those around us – Food is a language that we all share! Having learned family values through food and the art of cooking from her grandmother and mother, she now takes joy in sharing this with others. Join Yayuso, a multi-generational Japanese cook, in her home kitchen for an experience that will last a lifetime.
