Joshua was our guide for our evening food tour in the Tenma Station area of Osaka. He was quite knowledgeable about the cultural history of Osaka. He led the group to a unique “tunnel slide” which was really fun. After he told us how pachinko parlors work we were able to walk through one . . . a first for us! The actual food was mainly “bar food.” That is, skewers and small plates of various local delicacies, with plenty of beer of course. I guess a slight criticism would be that there was not that much variety in the places we visited. They were all good though! At the last stop Joshua found us a taxi and offered his help if we needed any further assistance during our stay. As an older couple this was very much appreciated!

It was a great fun with Yuko. First of all, I was given very detailed instructions how to get to Yuko house. Then, almost three hours passed unnoticeably as I was so involved in details of making wagashi. Yuko was hospitable and knowledgeable. After making pieces of edible art I enjoyed a short introduction how to make matcha. Absolutely stanning view from the window complemented the entire course. Thank you Yoko for your time, smile and patience. I will come back for more in the future.

Private Nerikiri Wagashi Class in Tokyo

Chef Yoshi and his wife Amo were excellent hosts for our cooking class! They accommodated our children (3, 5, 8 years old) and were so helpful and friendly with everything! We were afraid this wouldn’t be for kids but it was just the opposite. Amo met us at the train station and walked us to their place where the cooking class was held. The environment was very warm and welcoming! Chef Yoshi greeted us as we came up the stairs. All the steps were explained in detail, and didn’t rush us at all since our kids were involved too. Everything was perfect and the food was excellent! They taught us how to make gyoza and homemade ramen noodles using a machine. Amo was so kind she even took pictures of us and emailed them to us (along with the recipes!) when the class was finished. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to try a private cooking class!! Thank you so much Chef Yoshi & Amo!!

Taking a traditional udon and tempura making class in a 90-year-old Japanese house was an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere was steeped in history, with the wooden beams and tatami mats providing a cozy, authentic backdrop. Ayumi, a warm and knowledgeable instructor, guided me through each step of preparing fresh udon noodles from scratch and frying delicate tempura. The hands-on experience allowed me to appreciate the art of these classic dishes, while the instructor’s insights into Japanese cooking traditions deepened my understanding. The class was intimate, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions, and the final meal was both satisfying and delicious. It was a wonderful way to connect with Japanese culture in such a unique setting.

I had the chance to have the Harajuku Sweets & Street Food Tour With Shizuka and all I can say that it was an amazing experience. The whole tour felt so fun and insightful as we visited different places and got to experience different things too. Shizuka as a guide was nothing less than excellent and wonderful, her knowledge about the area as well as the places we visited felt personal and unique. The best part would be how friendly she was and her personality really brings the tour to the next level. Would absolutely recommend the tour to anyone.
