Experience Details

Tsukiji Market has a long legacy of being the largest fish market in the world and one incredible logistical marvel in itself. Tsukiji has seen billions of yen worth of fish and seafood coming and going throughout the years, with a lot of the action coming from the famous early morning tuna auction. As all good things come to an end, in October of 2018 the inner Tsukiji Market auction was moved to its new location in Toyosu. However, the outer market of Tsukiji is still operating business as usual, flourishing with seafood and street food sold at dozens of tiny restaurants and shop fronts. Learn about seafood and Japanese food in Tokyo during the Tsukiji Market Tour, a great opportunity to learn in-depth about the seafood culture in Japan with a local guide. You’ll also get to eat a delicious kaisendon (seafood bowl) during this family-friendly fishy event! At the start of this Tsukiji Market Tour, you’ll explore a Buddhist temple with around 300 years of history, learning Japanese etiquette about visiting temples, including understanding how to worship and behave respectfully. After gaining some cultural insight, next it’s serious seafood time! You’ll wander through the outer market of Tsujiki, discovering the best seafood and tasting as you go. The local guide can answer questions about different types of products and fish before taking you to eat one of the freshest sushi bowls you’ll ever taste in your life! Note: The inner part of Tsukiji Fish Market is closed on the 6th of October, 2018. This tour still operates, visiting the outer area of Tsukiji Fish Market.

Experience Location

The early-morning bustle and the spectacle of seeing whole fish expertly carved right before your eyes, combined with an array of local delicacies, make Tsukiji Market a must-visit in Tokyo. While the Tsukiji Fish Market’s auction was relocated to Toyosu in October 2018, many of Tsukiji Outer Market’s street vendors and restaurants remained. Some shops and restaurants have been in business for over 100 years! And since the seafood sold at Tsukiji Market is delivered directly from Toyosu Fish Market, Tsukiji Market is still one of the best places in Tokyo for fresh seafood.
