We loved the tea ceremony with Yurie, and how she wove the histories of Hiroshima and tea together. The confectionary store is beautiful. The ceremony was so tranquil and peaceful. Definitely recommend!!

the first real day of our trip to Japan, we met our guide from Asageshiki at Hiroshima station. We had a lovely talk while we walked to the first stop on our morning tour and found out a bit about history, as well as the area. She has grown up in the area and so was knowledgeable. We started the day at a temple and were able to learn about many of the practices one should follow when visiting a shrine, as well as the meaning of many of the practices. This shrine did withstand, although renovated, the atomic blast, and was where many of the wounded were brought. Next we went up 433 steps to the top of a mountain in a first, an amazing forest smack dab in the city, a lot of it was original and had survived. We got more lessons on history, culture, as well as a workout. We also found out that a portion of our tour fee was used by Asageshiki group and many volunteers to care for and improve the path up the mountain, we got to see progress photos of their work, which was very impressive. Finally we reach the top for an absolutely amazing view of the city. After soaking that in we had the opportunity to have a very delicious bento box style breakfast and tea ceremony. It was honestly the best way to start our trip in hiroshima. As we walked back down the mountain we were able to get good advice about our plans for the day as well as advice on places to eat. I must recommend this tour for anyone coming to the area if you are fit enough for a slow, but lengthy climb.

Tanaka was an incredibly friendly and knowledgeable guide. We had a fantastic time learning about Hiroshima history and culture, and making our own okonomiyaki was a very enjoyable experience. Highly recommended if you want to explore the city and soak up the culture via the expertise of a true local. Kanpai!

You can indulge in expertly crafted dishes that celebrate the season's bounty, with many establishments choosing to showcase the freshest vegetables, grains, and legumes available. These vegetarian options often include tastes from traditional Japanese cuisine, elegantly crafted to offer a satisfying experience for the discerning gastronaut.

Unique Vegetarian Dishes Await

One of the unique vegetarian experiences in Hiroshima is trying out variations of okonomiyaki, a savory pancake-like dish that is typically packed with ingredients like cabbage, noodles, and various meats. Here, you’ll find vegetarian versions that transform this iconic dish into a meat-free delight. The crispy exterior and fluffy interior, combined with fresh vegetables and delicious sauces, make for an irresistible meal.

Moreover, Hiroshima is home to an array of plant-based tofu and miso soups, where the depth of flavors comes from vegetables simmered to perfection, retaining all their nutritional goodness. Additionally, you can find excellent sushi venues that provide innovative vegetarian rolls with ingredients like pickled radish, avocado, and cucumber, all wrapped in perfectly seasoned sushi rice.

Embrace the Hiroshima Vegetarian Experience

Visiting Hiroshima for its vegetarian food experiences means immersing yourself in an engaging culinary journey. Beyond just dining, many establishments offer cooking classes where you can learn to prepare local dishes using traditional methods and vegetarian ingredients. These hands-on experiences not only enrich your understanding of Japanese cuisine but also empower you to recreate dishes when you return home.

Each offering pays homage to the natural flavors of the region while also ensuring that dietary preferences and sustainability are at the forefront. Hiroshima’s vegetarian food experiences embrace innovation while maintaining respect for time-honored culinary practices. So whether you are a dedicated vegetarian or simply looking to enjoy a meat-free meal, Hiroshima's vegetarian fare promises an unforgettable mix of flavors, artistry, and culture.
