Experience Details

Step into the heart of Osaka and experience Japanese cuisine through tea, sushi, and ramen in a hands-on class led by seasoned chef Katsuji.

Your journey begins as you make your way through a quiet residential neighborhood, where local markets, family-run shops, and everyday life offer a glimpse into a side of Japan many visitors rarely experience. By the time you arrive, you'll already feel immersed in the local community's rhythm.

Chef Katsuji and his wife warmly welcome you into their home, where modern comforts blend seamlessly with traditional Japanese design. The experience begins in a tranquil tea room with a Japanese tea ceremony, creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere before cooking begins.

After a brief introduction to the recipes and the day's flow, head into the kitchen for a hands-on cooking session. Learn to prepare sushi from scratch, from seasoning sushi rice to rolling and shaping different styles. Then make a comforting bowl of ramen topped with pork char siu, green onions, and bean sprouts, in a rich chicken-and-soy-sauce broth.

Guests with dietary restrictions are welcome. Chef Katsuji is happy to accommodate different dietary needs whenever possible, including vegetarian and vegan sushi made with beautifully prepared seasonal ingredients and traditional Japanese seasonings that showcase the depth of plant-based Japanese cuisine.

Once cooking is complete, sit down and enjoy the meal you created together.

The experience ends on a personal note as you receive a custom calligraphy piece handwritten by Chef Katsuji to take home as a meaningful keepsake.

With 38 years of experience running izakayas, sushi restaurants, and ramen shops, Chef Katsuji now shares his lifelong passion for Japanese cooking through intimate classes alongside his daughter, Chiharu.
