We had a wonderful time and experience at Sakura san’s class. The class was very well organised and structured. Our nine year old is very shy and Sakura san approached her with patience and after a while she felt comfortable. We’re so glad that we did this and recommend the class wholeheartedly. Thank you for the great time, Sakura san🌸

Yuko was a great host and taught us how to make Nerikiri in a very easy to understand manner. It was amazing that we, who had no experience in Japanese confectionery making, could make such beautiful Nerikiri!! It was a wonderful experience!! Thank you, Yuko!

I loved my experience with Yuko-San. She was a very sweet lady who wants to make sure you get the best experience possible. The cooking was pretty fast paced but it's because she wants you to have the time slow down and enjoy the sweets you made while drinking a cup of tea and chatting with her. She is interested in you and wants to know about your story. If you learn Japanese before booking this class, you will gain even more from this experience since you will able to connect with her even more. I truly think she makes the experience worth it. It is much better than a step by step Youtube video. It felt more personal. Arigatō gozaimasu Yuko-San

My sisters, cousin, and I took the mochi sweets class with Sakura san. It was an absolutely amazing experience! Sakura san is an exceptional teacher and we learned so much from her. Her step by step lesson was perfect and I am excited to bring home everything I have learned. The different types of mochi were delicious. She even gave a lesson on the history of mochi. I am so grateful for this course and I highly recommend it for everyone. It was a great experience making a cultural dish. Thank you so much Sakura san!

Yuko-san provided us with a wonderful history of Wagashi before the course started and showed us what we would be making. We had so much fun learning about Japanese sweets. I highly recommend stopping here in Tokyo on your next trip. It’s worth it just to explore the beautiful neighbourhood and get to eat delicious s.weets and matcha tea. Yuko was a gracious host.

Discover Tokyo's Vegetarian Wagashi Delights

When it comes to experiencing the vibrant culinary scene in Tokyo, one cannot overlook the unique offerings of vegetarian wagashi. These delightful traditional Japanese sweets provide a glimpse into Japan's cultural heritage while catering to those who prefer plant-based options. Explore this exciting food journey in Tokyo, where the art of wagashi making is celebrated with creativity and respect for authenticity.

Wagashi are not just sweets; they are edible art pieces. Made primarily from natural and wholesome ingredients such as sweet red bean paste, glutinous rice, and seasonal fruits, they promise not only delightful flavors but also a feast for the eyes. Each piece is crafted to perfection, mirroring the beauty of nature and changing seasons, making them an ideal choice for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike who are on the hunt for guilt-free indulgence.

Why Choose Vegetarian Wagashi?

One might wonder, why wagashi stand out among other sweet treats, especially for vegetarians. The answer lies in their traditional preparation methods and the thoughtful selection of ingredients. Vegetarians will find solace in the fact that wagashi uses ingredients like mochi, kanten (a type of agar), and bean pastes, with little to no use of animal-derived products, making them a perfect dessert choice that aligns with a plant-based lifestyle. Unlike many Western sweets, wagashi avoids overly processed ingredients and refined sugars, opting instead for natural sweetness that doesn't overpower the subtle flavors.

In Tokyo, the variety of wagashi is astounding. From 'yokan', a firm jelly-like dessert made with red bean paste, to the delicate 'daifuku', a soft rice cake filled with sweet fillings, there is something for every palate. As you explore the vegetarian wagashi offerings in Tokyo, you'll also get to witness the meticulous process of crafting these confections—a true testament to the skill and dedication of wagashi artisans.

Where to Experience Vegetarian Wagashi in Tokyo

Tokyo's charm is in its ability to fuse modernity with tradition, and nowhere is this more evident than in its culinary landscape. Here, you can find both traditional tea houses and contemporary confectionery shops offering vegetarian wagashi experiences. These places provide an opportunity to not only taste but also learn about the cultural significance and history behind each type of wagashi.

Whether you choose to participate in a wagashi-making workshop or simply enjoy tasting sessions, you're sure to be captivated by the attention to detail and artistry involved. Imagine yourself sitting in a tranquil tea room, sipping on aromatic green tea, perfectly complemented by the subtle sweetness of a beautifully crafted wagashi. It's an experience that encapsulates the essence of Japanese hospitality and adds a delightful twist to your Tokyo travel story.

Join Tokyo's gastronomic adventure and indulge in the charm of vegetarian wagashi.
