French Quarter

French Quarter in Hanoi is located on the southeast of the popular Hoan Kiem Lake. Like the Old Quarter with 36 streets. The area brings a feeling of France. In the late 19th century, French occupied Hanoi and replaced many of the old Vietnamese buildings with impressive and stunning French-style houses and villas in this area. The war ended but left behind many French traits in this area. That’s why it is called French Quarter. With unique traits in architecture and a wide range of delicious food and refreshing drinks. Wandering along the streets, you will find many houses painted in yellow and having typical street style of Paris France’s capital. French Quarter is considered the most luxurious area of the city. A lot of 5-star hotels and high-class restaurants, coffee shops, bookstores, boutiques and galleries. French Quarter has an important location for some embassies like Ireland and Italian embassies, government buildings and wealthy residential neighborhoods.

St. Joseph's Cathedral

St. Joseph's Cathedral is a Catholic church on Nhà Chung Street, in the Hoàn Kiếm District of Hanoi, Vietnam. It is a late 19th-century Gothic Revival (Neo-Gothic style) church that serves as the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hanoi. The cathedral is named after Joseph, the patron saint of Vietnam. Construction began in 1884, with an architectural style resembling the Notre Dame de Paris. The church was one of the first structures built by the French colonial government in French Indochina when it opened in December 1886. It is the oldest church in Hanoi. The cathedral conducts Mass several times during the day. For Sunday evening mass at 6:00 PM, large crowds spill out into the streets. The prayer hymns are broadcast; Catholics who are unable to enter the cathedral congregate in the street and listen to hymns.
