Right in the south of Kyushu, Kagoshima Prefecture was once the last stronghold of samurai culture — a volcanic land of sun and sea, where Japanese history was made. Nowadays, you’ll often hear it referred to as the Naples of the East, for its beautiful bay scenery and lovely weather — it even has its own equivalent of Mt. Vesuvius.

Being a land of samurai and all, you’ll find a lot of great meat dishes here. Kagoshima wagyu beef is one of the most popular brands around, and Kagoshima black-haired pork makes for some of the best tonkotsu ramen, shabu shabu hot pot, and tonkatsu cutlet you’re ever likely to find. On top of that, you’ll find a lot of dishes seasoned with the yuzu citrus fruit which thrives down here. What better to wash down your protein-packed samurai dinner with than a glass of high-proof local shochu?

Our restaurant reservation service makes it simple and easy to secure a spot at one of these Kagoshima restaurants. Choose your favorites, and you’ll have a full Kagoshima culinary itinerary booked in no time.
