This was a true hi-light of our trip. Yoko was both kind and welcoming to our party. She went out of her way to accommodate us even though I got the time wrong. So appreciated the menu, which took into account our vegetarian guest. We were truly delighted with the class and our experience. I highly recommend the class. Thank you, Yoko

It was a very enjoyable experience! Although it’s in my neighborhood, I got to tour a noodle factory that I normally wouldn’t have a chance to see, and I made my own noodles by choosing the dough and the cutting blade I liked. It was a very interesting and valuable experience. After that, we moved to Akiko-san’s home, where we started by preparing the filling for the gyoza, wrapping them, and then cooking them with crispy wings, just like in a restaurant! The salad with fried baby sardines and mizuna was also exceptional. We then boiled our own ramen noodles, added various toppings, and enjoyed a luxurious bowl of rich, tonkotsu-style ramen! To finish, we made matcha shiratama cream anmitsu, which was a perfect course. There were no foreign participants this time, but this has inspired me to study English, and I hope to interact with international guests next time. Thank you for the wonderful time!

What a great experience! So enjoyed learning about the cultivation of shitakes and picking mushrooms at the farm. Even better was roasting and eating them-unbelievably delicious! Also made rice balls wrapped in nori with some pickled shitakes and had green tea to wash it all down. Bought some packaged mushrooms and other mushroom products. Our host Yoko was charming and so kind-drove us to the train station at end of our visit. Highly recommend this off the beaten track experience.

The experience was more than what I’ve expected. It’s like having multiple tours in one and Akiko-san was so friendly and fun to speak with. And to ensure quality experience, the tour was strictly kept to a small group size up to 5 only. It’s almost like a private tour or class with that group size. The ramen noodles factory was exceptionally enlightening especially if you are a big fan of ramen. Speaking with the noodle master felt like a money-can’t—but experience. We got to ask so much questions, looked and touched different ingredients and doughs, and even got to try out packing noodles in the machine. The subsequent hands-on cooking class was also amazing as Akiko-san brought us through meticulously the steps to making good Gyoza and Ramen. She also shared with us tips on how to make good ramen back at our home country - sharing with us knowledge about substitutes, etc to make sure we can easily replicate it on our own. I highly recommend this tour if you have half a day to spare in your visit to Tokyo or Yokohama. The experience taught me so much about ramen and would love to do it again next time.

Discover Culinary Delights in Kanagawa

Kanagawa, a vibrant prefecture adjacent to Tokyo, offers a delightful blend of traditional and contemporary Japanese cuisines. With its scenic landscapes, bustling cities, and coastal towns, Kanagawa is an ideal destination for food enthusiasts seeking diverse culinary experiences. From bustling Yokohama to serene Kamakura, each area in Kanagawa provides a unique taste of Japan's gastronomic excellence.

Start your culinary journey in Yokohama, the second-largest city in Japan, renowned for its innovative take on various dishes. This port city has a rich history of international influence, which is evident in its vibrant Chinatown, considered one of the largest in the world. Here, you can indulge in authentic dumplings and buns, experiencing a taste of China infused with Japanese charm. For a more local flavor, try Yokohama's traditional ramen, which is a must-try for any noodle enthusiast.

Experience Traditional Japanese Cuisine in Kamakura

Kamakura, often referred to as the Kyoto of Eastern Japan, is not only famous for its historic temples but also for its exquisite traditional food offerings. Nestled among the lush landscapes and historical sites, you can delight your senses with seasonal dishes that highlight the best of Japan's natural ingredients. Enjoy fresh sashimi from local catches, or savor tempura made with vegetables sourced from local farms. Matcha lovers will find solace in the delicate sweets that are paired perfectly with green tea, often served in serene teahouses surrounded by tranquil gardens.

Another signature experience in Kamakura is enjoying shojin ryori, a form of Buddhist vegetarian cuisine. This offfer echoes the simplicity and mindfulness that define the Zen culture found in the area. It's a fulfilling option for those looking to explore more health-conscious and philosophical aspect of Japanese dining.

Coastal and Countryside Flavors

Kanagawa's coastline and countryside also offer unique culinary experiences that blend the freshness of its natural produce. In areas like Enoshima and Shonan, seafood becomes the star of the dining scene. Be sure to try shirasu, tiny whitebait fish that are often eaten raw or boiled and are a local delicacy. These can be found in donburi (rice bowls) or as toppings on various dishes, bringing a taste of the ocean to your plate.

For those willing to venture into Kanagawa's rural areas, the fresh air and lush landscapes provide the perfect backdrop for heartwarming meals. Farm-to-table dining is becoming increasingly popular, with local farmers' markets and eateries serving up dishes made from fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. These dining experiences allow you to taste the produce of Kanagawa's fertile grounds, such as fresh vegetables, sweet fruits, and tender meats.

Whether you're a gourmet adventurer or someone who appreciates the authenticity of regional dishes, Kanagawa's diverse food offerings promise a memorable journey through Japanese cuisine. Each bite tells a story of tradition, culture, and innovation, making Kanagawa a must-visit for any food lover.
