Otaru’s city center is filled with decades of history and culture, making it the perfect place to escape the bustling cities of Japan. A port city for many decades, Otaru has river channels flowing through, with the most famous being Otaru Canal. Otaru Canal can be enjoyed every season, with a view of snow covering the historic red-brick buildings in winter, or as a great place to take a walk in the crisp air during spring. Walk around the city and visit beautiful art museums, well-crafted glass galleries, and Music Box Museum where you can take in the sound of music.

Be sure not to miss out on the Finance District, not only for its amazing architecture but also for Otaru City Museum. Seafood can be found anywhere within the city, serving fresh crab, oysters, shrimp, you name it! Confectionary shops are also lined up throughout the city, so it is easy to grab a treat while walking around and enjoying the wonders of Otaru.
