FULLMOON Kyoto Kawaramachi
Sequestered in Kyoto’s charming Kawaramachi district, FULLMOON brings together the genuine spin on Italian pizzas and beef rump steak, elevated with a subtle touch of luxury.
Restaurant Details
Compared to its neighboring fellows in Kyoto’s emblematic Kawaramachi area, FULLMOON holds nothing back in showing its Italian roots. That much is clear when you see its bold, bright orange neon signage standing out among the other quaint stores.
On the inside, though, it still manages to keep some surprises up its sleeve. A full moon-shaped light fixture serves as the main source of illumination, casting a soft, ambient glow. The dining area follows the restaurant's celestial theme, with grey-toned concrete that evokes the rocky surface of the moon, balanced by warm organic elements like plants and wood.
With a flexible European influence, FULLMOON’s menu revolves around fluffy, Naples-style pizzas that strike the perfect balance between a charred, puffy crust and a dense, flavorful center. The kitchen skillfully stretches the dough, creating a flat, topped masterpiece. The signature pizza, in particular, never fails to impress — draped with a runny egg and salty prosciutto.
Other items are just as impressive, with that oh-so-pretty look. Appetizers could be Caesar salad with jammy egg and prosciutto, or marinated tuna, prosciutto and arugula carpaccio. A domestic beef rump steak, grilled to perfection and served with a special sauce and vegetables grown from the store’s own garden, elevates the meal from delicious to truly spectacular.
To round out the dining experience, guests enjoy a fresh pasta of the day, followed by two types of cheesecake. Come here for a night with the girls or for a date to impress.
